...but when Finland won the WJC in 2014 they were without their two best players in the age group (Barkov + Määttä) and had their best underage player injured (Kapanen). But, sure, any excuse to feed the "Canada is best in any real best-on-best" circle-jerk is expected.

Can't people appreciate the tournament for what it is? We know that McDavid and Ekblad are missing for Canada, we know that Eichel and Hanifin are missing for the U.S. Nylander is injured, Pasternak was flown in late, and we can go on and on.

It is about who plays the tournament best with the hand they're dealt, not could-haves, would-haves.

There is only one constant in all of it which is if Canada loses its irrelevant and if they win its super meaningful. Like how the U-18s are a joke cuz they take place during the OHL Playoffs but the Ivan Hlinka is super important even though the USA NDTP isn't there.

That's amusing - whether Sweden had one more player or not had no significance. Canada totally dominated that game.

...if you think my point was that Sweden would have won if another player was there then you missed where I was going with that

Are people REALLY talking about that game and are still confused about it? Sweden missed Bäckström, H Sedin and Zetterberg that game, our top 3 centers in that tournament. And yes, we know that Canada couldnt bring ALL of their stars, but it hurts Sweden more since we're a smaller hockey country and have less (ALOT less) registered players (since we actually play other sports aswell). How are people missing this?..

Dunno why you're even talking bout the olympics in this thread, but now I saw who you were quoting

Sweden is the most penalised team in the tournament and Finland has the best poweplay. That is Finlands chance to win.

Sweden vs Finland world junior records for the past 5 years.

2015 6-3 Sweden
2014 3-2 Finland
2013 7-4 Sweden
2012 3-2 Sweden
2011 didn't meet
2010 7-1 Sweden

Tells nothing when it's juniors. The teams change dramatically. We have had two much better generations than in 10-15 years.

I would believe that Bragin will get out of it being a winner as he often did in the past but this Russian team has not enough skill to save his ass this time. Past Russian teams have had great individuals on offense who were able to make sure that outcome is right at the end and also a great goaltending. This team has a great goalie who warms the bench for no particular reason and the offence is as average as they come.

Last game with almost the same teams went to Finland 4-1. And we had Vehviläinen in goal..

Finnish team was this - Haaranen, Honkanen, Tammela, Salo, Mäkinen and Kiviranta. But + Rantanen, Juolevi, Nättinen, Lammikko, Saarijärvi and Kapanen

Swedish team was this - Aho, Kovacs, Ohlsson, Mastomäki, Vejdemo and Törnqvist I think. And no Källgren in goal. But + with Alexander Nylander, Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson, Dmytro Timashov, Adrian Kempe and Wlliam Lagesson.

Finland has 3 WJC gold medals, sweden only 2 :D

Whats up little brothers

This is going to be a fun day...

travelling today, but hope I get where I'm going by the time the USA-Russia game gets going and I can find a corner to watch it.

Could be a nasty bit of business in that one.

My guess is it will be a US-Finland final.

Will be a great game.

My take on it is, Sweden is just better. Should be able to dominate the game, under normal circumstances. But Finland will come on extremely hard and can really force things.

I am having a kind of hard time predicting how the game will play out. Will it be about scoring the first goal, like so many hockey games is about nowadays? Will Finland back down and the game be about Finnish defense and counter attacks vs Swedish puck possession hockey? Will it open up at all?

Finland's playbook is too strong against the mediocre Swedish playbook which builds around variation plays. Our game will always thrive against the Swedish harpoon attacks.

My honest prediction.

Englund will destroy every finnish player with his superior frame.
W. Nylander will arrive with his leaf-jersey and single-handedly win the game.
Pulju will turn back to Swede after game, and miraculously talk fluently every language in the world at the interview.
