McDavid's playoff goaltending:

6 years in the playoffs, better than .915 goaltending one time (the first time in). Way things go in Edmonton.
I mean, you should see what people have to say about the Pens goaltending after their last Cup win. Tristan Jarry is perennially nailed to the cross over there.

More common than I thought. But it looks like if the Player nails that shot it tends to catch the goalie off gaurd. Lots of good goalies in that highlight pack.
No goalie can possibly cover for every contingency.

Apparently now we are critiquing the goalie because a shooter hit a space no more than a couple of inches. Its a ridiculous standard to hold any goalie to.
At some point you just hand it to the shooter and move on.

Yeah they haven't come close to a Cup since their goaltending went to shit. Which tells you ... ?

Hard to win Cups with Stuart Riitich in net.

I know the League and Jets fans did when Drai did this:

Even harder with every goalie not named Skinner last year. Or did I forget some goalies that got to the SCFs too?

McDavid only had to break Wayne Gretzky's assist record to get the team there and then bring them back from the dead in the Finals. Evidence by the fact that he was the first skater in like 50 years to win the Conn Smythe trophy even though his team lost.

Give him any .908 goalie and they have a 2024 Stanley Cup banner, it's hilarious how much shit they give McDavid in net relative to other superstars like Ovechkin (once lost two years in the 2nd round alone with .940+ goaltending .... Hooowwwwwwww?) and Crosby (stud goaltending in his Cup wins).

.883 and .901 the last two years is f***ing rough, hard to win a Cup when that's the "help" you're getting in net.

There looks to be more room on that shot than the shot that beat Skinner. Skinner had his shoulder higher relative to the crossbar.
Still a ridculously accurate shot by Draisaitl though and watching him reset the net just before he shot that puck makes it even better..

I mean if a shooter can hit that then props to him.

Reinhart's shot also needs to find a perfect bank. So I would say the difficulty to complete that shot was even higher.

Yeh it's almost like winning relies on more things than just goaltending.

In (prime) McDavid's case I don't think it's really rocket science.

Give him a half way decent d-corps that's well coached (system's play), some offensive depth (not even asking for like the 85 Oilers or even 22 Avalanche here), and a goalie that's above .907-ish and you probably win a Cup.

If that goalie is like .910+, like you're probably going to cruise to a Cup.

The Oilers front office are the ones making this way more complicated than it has to be and probably have cost themselves a Cup or two already. McDavid should definitely have at least 1 of the last two Stanley Cups. It's the organization that's the hold up.

Yeh "probably" with mysterious unnamed goalie. And it could never ever happen in a million years with Stu, even though we were 1 goal away from that very thing happening.

Being better than .901 in the playoffs behind a legitimately good defensive team isn't that hard.

Unless you're a Riitich tier goalie. Then it's obviously tough.

The 2024 run wasn't even really some magical team run where tons of players had great playoffs. McDavid, Drai (until the Finals), Bouchard, Ekholm, Hyman, Nuge were good and then the rest of the team honestly wasn't exactly some well oiled machine (PK maybe excluded). The 2006 Cup run was more of a full team effort.

McDavid gets a lot from not a lot of help honestly.

Good thing our team is good enough then. And that's why we succeeded better than 31 other teams.

I don't think they can beat Florida or Vegas in a best of 7 as presently constructed.

Skinner will f*** it up.

We succeeded last year better than 31 other teams because McDavid is probably the 2nd or 3rd best human being to ever play hockey.

Yeh you went into every single game in the playoffs thinking Skinner would blow it for the Oil. And were wrong atleast 15 times. So whatever.

He did take us to the brink of losing to Vancouver. He got carried to a Cup Final.

.901 is shit numbers in the playoffs. We made it in spite of that, not because of that.

Wow, "the brink of losing". Otherwise known as Winning.

Is .901 the lowest save percentage for a starter that's made the Finals in like the last 30 years? Can you find someone lower?

Dictionary definition of a scrub getting carried by one of the best talents ever right there.

All that matters is how he plays compared to the guy across the rink when it comes to series wins and losses. Oettinger will tell you. LA's multiple goalies will tell you.

Yeah they will tell you that Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are forces of nature and the Oilers play a much tighter defensive system these days than in the past.

Not one of those guys will say Skinner is better than them, because deep down they don't believe that.

Do you really think Jake Oettenger thinks Stuart Skinner is better than him? lol, f*** no.
