Skinners a slave to the RVH in any and all circumstances thanks to that dunce Schwartz. I’m surprised Skinner doesn’t drop into the RVH on breakaways FFS. Last night he also had no rebound control and pucks were bouncing off him like he was made out of pure Indian rubber.

Between him and Bouchard stumbling around like a drunk at the staff Christmas party last night, they both clearly showed why they were left off of Team Canada and rightly so.

Yup. Team Canada is still a lol roster though and I hope they get swept

Was at the game and I know harp on the reffing a lot but WOW was that ever suspect last night. Blatant missed calls, questionable actual calls, goals clearly kicked in, Stu highsticked in the head, how do you give an NHLer an extra two minutes for chirping a horrible call when that's literally what Florida and their whiny ass bench did all night? Toughen up stripes.

Honestly seemed like a massive difference in how the two teams were treated all night. Very frustrating. Whoever started the "Gary's boyfriend" chant in our section gets a hat tip from me. It was towards ref #11, some midget with little man syndrome. Pathetic display from that dipshit.

Also, Stu sucked. Just completely took the life out of the building and from his team.

I still can't believe we lost that fking game after being up 4-2 ffs Having Florida take the lead and even tieing the game again only to have skinner completely flop

Skinner will never change rinse and repeat. Strings along 3 or 4 fantastic games then falls into a blackmore. We will not go any were with Skinner in net

And for what its worth the flames just shut out the cats on Saturday night..... actually the cats were shut out on B2B games, gell they only scored 2 games in there previous 5. The fking sharks helds them to 1 fking goal people. The fking sharks , but leave it up to the Oilers to set them straight again

Others have said it as well, but the bolded is what most of us “Skinner doubters” feel. His peaks and valleys are too high and low for a starter. Save percentage doesn’t tell the whole story (when some defenders compare him to other options). His “valleys” have lost them games, and playoff series

They need a more steady goalie

5 good games in a row from Stu is nice and all. But he ain't it. Needs a guy to play with him when he goes to shit. As he ALWAYS does. Ride him when he's hot. Sit him when he's shit.

Can't win a cup with just this guy. You just can't. The goals he just lets in from horrible/weird angles or that just completely go through him are KILLERS and absolutely unacceptable.

So many of the goals last night were HORRIBLE. I was sitting right behind his net and seeing his lack of finding pucks and movement that close is JARRING.

Yeah, but remember Edmonton MGMT is do or die on the Skinner bandwagon.

Had so many occasions to jump to the hot goalie but whenever it happened. they ignored the solution that was in theirs face.

Kosko outplayed smith in the playoffs but hey gotta go back to the reference picture.
Campbell and Pick outplayed Skinner but who cares.

Somebody somewhere in this org really believe in him getting elite at some point and is so focused on the what if, that they forget to look at what happening every day on the ice.

Oh but what goalie are available?
What about cap space?

Damn it's been 3 years of that shit. And it's not getting better. Sometimes you gotta rip the bandaid to get a good look at what rotten.

Friendly reminder that we got Skinner every chance in the world to prove he could. We pushed goalie outside of the organization to let him breathe. Hell, we demoted Campbell at a time where stu was by far the worst of the 2 goalie.

Wake the fup
The Edmonton Oilers org has a manifesting mission. By hell or high water, they are going to manifest skinner into an elite goalie. You just gotta throw it out into the universe.

They might want to take baby steps with it. You have to be average first, then great, then elite. Skinner is trying to get to that average level.

The key to this year is to lower expectations. Then you won't get disappointed.

You don't get a zillion chances come playoff time. If your game sinks, you are done (which skinner almost did against Vancouver)

But these morons seem content to try this rollercoaster strategy again come playoff time.

Bold strategy cotton

The reality is - Skinner let in all 4 HDSC the Panthers generated and then gifted them two goals on plays that weren't even considered scoring chances.

That's not on the defense.

If we don't gift the Panthers two goals or get a single save on a high danger chance we win last night handily.
Have to look up where he is in terms of of high danger save %. Haven't looked it up in a while. Those chances are almost auto goals on this guy

Skinner is a fraud, he can play well for little stretches but then will revert to being a mental midget, we get gifted a bad game from Bob and Skinner still decides to be even worse.

Anyone who keeps falling for the "maybe we don't need goaltending help" any time this fraud puts up a few good games in a row deserves a night like tonight. How many times do you need to get hit over the head before it sinks in.
Yup. The last 5 games was a nice stretch but all the "Oilers goaltending is solved" posts made me sick. THIS is who Skinner is. Some good games where he looks solid and then follows it up with shit like this. He's a great tandem goalie. Not a 55-game starter. Sorry fan boys, he's just not. And he will NEVER get there. He doesn't have the fundamentals or athleticism to carry the load that much.

Oilers beat Kinights - 307 posts
Oilers lose to Panthers - 645 posts

HFOil....
Always...

Oilers win five games in a row, beating three top teams in the league. They have been playing outstanding team hockey for the last 15 games, and each PGT is about 6-9 pages long the next morning after a win. They lose one game where the team plays badly, and the PGT is 26 pages long the next morning, full of whining about how bad the team is, completely discounting the last month of excellent hockey the team has played.

I've been on this board for almost 20 years and it's only getting worse.

Everyone knows Skinner is a mediocre goalie prone to insane hot and cold stretches, he just came off a hot stretch of every game being .920 or better, but there is no mention of that from a certain contingent of posters here. The second he lays an egg though, which he and every other goalie in the league will do, the chicken littles are out in full force whining that the sky is falling.

The Oilers are a top team in the League by every metric, but they have inconsistent goaltending, yet coming to this board after a loss, you would think these are the 2011 DOD Oilers.

My thoughts exactly.

I'm no expert on goaltending but I can't see much difference in the talent level between Skinner and Pickard so play them as a tandem. There really is no established #1 goaltender (55 reliable starts) so make best use of the assets you have---and quietly do some shopping for a goalie. It won't be a major acquisition but the relative success of Podz, Kap and Emberson demonstrates that you can land some decent talent even without any substantial cap room. Small moves can pay good dividends.

The number 11 ref is Kelly Sutherland, he's well known as one of the worst refs in the NHL. He also seems to have a personal vendetta against the oilers. That nurse call was BS.

Yeah, you aren't going to beat a team like Florida when your defence and goaltending plays that bad. I guess we were due for a loss anyway.

Just remember that was our first bad game in quite a while. The world isn’t ending.

Just hurts more when it's a team that you would really like to beat.
Move on to the next one. Due for a stinker once in a while. Team has been outstanding for qute a while though.

The bolded is really our last 3 seasons in a nutshell. By literally every metric other than tending, the Oilers are an elite team.

This is why lots of us are so against Skinner though. He is the reason we haven't won a cup, and he will continue to be the reason why we won't win a cup. He isn't the only reason, no, but he is, by far, the biggest reason. It's not fair to him in some ways, he is what he is after all. He seems like a really solid human, and I wish him nothing but the best. But I want a more consistent tender for my team. Even if the top end isn't as high as Skinner's top end can be. Skinner can play like a top-10 goalie in the world for a few games every now and then, but the valleys where he plays like a bottom-5 goalie in the NHL are too frequent. In the regular season, you can play through those valleys, in the playoffs though, it sinks you, full stop.

We need a better tender, everybody knows this.

For those who are crapping on goaltending there isn't a better option out there. We need to play a good team defense game night in and night out to take the pressure off of our average goaltending.

There's no goalie out there available who is clearly a better option than what we already have. There's no Dwayne Roloson we can pick up that solves everything.

Oilers have to focus on you know, not falling down in the neutral zone and not letting the Panthers #6 defenseman stand all alone by himself in the slot.

Refs were terrible last night, no doubt. Directly led to 2 Panthers goals. The NHL is a joke of a league when it comes to officiating, more than any other pro league by far. This isn't going to change though, and sometimes we are on the good side of that terrible reffing as well.
