Yep. There were goalies available. Its not like Skinner is a high bar to replace. Just me but I don't even want him backup. Would prefer Skins not be here at all.

I’m going to tell you this now, again.

We were not finding a starting goalie this offseason. Unless we were in on Kuemper or Ullmark, it wasn’t happening.

He’s posted below a 850 in 5 of his last 12 games played.

Did he play alight in last 6? Sure let’s give him credit but the team was rolling and gave up nothing. Any time he’s needed he shits the bed, he’s got 3 one goal wins all year.
This is the whole point we "haters" make

Edmonton can play some good D for stretches. They don't make the workload hard on Skinner. We generate a lot of chances to score. When we do f*** up can we rely on the guy in a big a** game?

How many games can people here think of and say "Man, that game was a loss 100% if it wasn't for Skinner"?

Last year there were like 5 or 6 names bandied about as skinner replacements. The majority of them are having stinker seasons this year. They are dice rolls.

That's fine if you want to keep running it back with statistically one of the worst starters in the league.

But you have no business then turning around and also saying "yeah but we want the Cup too". f*** no, that's not how that works. You get nothing and you can savor it.

Those in attendance, did ANY player go back to Stu Skinner and pat him after this one. They didn't show it, I did see a bunch of players going straight down the tunnel.

I'd mentioned that the Panthers broadcast they were snickering at how back Skinner was. Shoot high, why not. One of the commentators couldn't stop laughing and snickering on air, they went to commercial then or would have had more to say.

What people aren't mentioning much is that it wasn't just a SC hangover to start the season its "we have another year of trying to roll Skinner up the biggest hill" A daunting task if ever there was one.

Oilers are a pretty good team. We still need a goalie at TDL. That need continues.

Most of the time opponent broadcast get a good feel for how mediocre he plays but it's astounding how the Oilers encourage elevate him to the 7th wonder of modern hockey.

Completely disillusional.

I absolutely hate Torts, don't even watch my Flyers anymore as I'm boycotting, but even he would be smart enough to have benched Bouchard before that 3rd giveaway

3rd giveaway? Lol, Bouchard's ass would've been stapled to the bench 30 seconds into the game for the way he started it if Torts was coach.

Heres what will happen in the coaches room after tonight.

Knob will correctly assess tonight’s game. Clean up and address all the egregious and correctable errors and we will still be an elite team with as good a chance to win the Cup as any other team in the League.

Here’s what he won’t do. Yell at and blame Skinner until he becomes Sheshterkin.

Go and get Lyon or Talbot. They can't do the three headed goalie routine for that long and both are options that could take the starting job outright from Skinner.

Still pisses me off that Kevin Lankinen was sitting there at the end of UFA and Van picks him up for 875K?

This guy would be head and shoulders better than both of our goalies, but management and that lazy AF POS Shwartz probably convinces them that we are allll guuuud at the goaltending position. Fukin turd Schwartz

31 teams missed out on Lankinen.

Also these sort of crazy goaltending stories happen every year. Last year Connor Ingram was the hottest thing since sliced bread. This year, not so much.

It’s voodoo. No different than making your bets on roulette and seeing what happens on the wheel.

He’s won 3/5 games wow what a player not my fault is. To bad he costed us a cup in June.
He did? 0 points from McDrai in their biggest game of their lives

Why exactly is that impossible?

If Skinner is so much better than Blackwood, why pray tell does he have a worse save percentage, a worse GSAA playing on a much, much better team?
And it’s not impossible to say Blackwood stinks in the playoffs

Most teams have a decent starter, pretty much all contenders do so no one was hunting around and dying for one.

I have exactly what I want right now though. In my 30 years of oilers hockey, I’ve never had a team I prefer over this one.

And that’s a team that has a realistic and good chance at a Cup. As they did last year. As they do again this year.

Do you think there’s a team that can garantee a Cup? Doesn’t exist. But if that’s your expectation, yes you will be disappointed. Even if that team was a goal away from a Cup, it’ll never be good enough for you.

You get a handful of those a season with Skinner including playoffs. Other clubs get 20of them. Games stolen by goalie that they have no business being in. The Oilers had weeks of textbook defending. The one night they are off Skinner is just bombed. The Oilers team and D work so hard so many nights for this result not to happen but you can't play every game perfectly. Panthers were worse through two periods but Skinner kept them in it. Florida better team in third and got the decision but Oilers were better team overall.

Fair enough, but keep in mind that Skinner was a candidate for the Calder and he also made the All-star team in his second year. How quickly you fans forget that he is actually a talented goaltender.

You'd rather run him and his bargain contract out of town and ignore the actual problems leaking goals on this team
He moves like a 80 year old man in net. He’s not talented at all, he actually has the least amount of goaltender talent you can have.

If the organization wants to be that lazy with goaltending, they deserve 0 Cups. You don't even want to try, then you deserve nothing. It's a loser mentality.

Laughable to blame Skinner for that when Ekholm and Bouchard embarrassed themselves repeatedly the whole night. That game was so bad from the two of them that they almost owe their teammates an apology.

That may have been the worst game Bouchard has ever played, and Ekholm wasn’t far behind. Nurse had his moments of ineptitude too.

I tend to lean towards blaming goalie more than D a lot of the time, and I HATE the “defense needs to be better in front of him” excuse 90% of the time. This was one of those nights though IMO. Sloppy, bullshit hockey preceded most of the goals against, especially the key ones in the third when we imploded. f***ing morons decided to take a nice casual approach into the third with a one goal lead and the Panthers embarrassed them for it. Deserved.
Hold up busy banking a shot off a goalies helmet from directly behind the net. His third goal was almost as shamefull that was a Nurse special muffin shot that bounced off his chest and off his player and into his net. No high end goalie absorbs shots as poorly as Skinner. Its 4-2 going into the third if not for Skinner but he doesn't deserve to be blamed.
