Value of: Seth Jones to anywhere

If Jones isn’t really worth his AAV, it should be on Chicago to retain and it shouldn’t cost the acquiring team anything to retain. It should not be a default to pay for retention when the acquiring team didn’t make the mistake on the contract.
I can understand that view philosophically, but I don't think that stance is beneficial to reaching a deal.

If the acquisition cost is ultimately low enough (mid pics and prospects) I believe a deal could be made. There's certainly a fair amount of risk with Jones's contract for the buyer, so that would drive the price down IMO.

We give up our number one prospect with top line potential and future starting goalie for an overpaid, overrated middle six defender who can't defend. Astonishing trade.

This is actually a good trade for both teams. Bedard gets his playmaker and the Flames are off the hook in just four years.
That 10.5 million salary though. Huberdeau has that style that maybe could last long. But if he loses his hands, hes done. Thats whats took him to NHL, and his ticket to success to begin with.

As Calgary, I would do that. As a Chicago GM, I would demand a bit more. Maybe a rosterplayer as well, maybe a rooster swap. Or a pick swap for the second year, like 2nd for 3rd 2027.

Absolutely no reason for Calgary to do that. We are not giving up the better player, and a potential lottery pick to bring in a player who would be the third best RD on this roster. I don't care if Huberdeau has an extra year on his deal.

Huberdeau is still a legitimately good hockey player despite what the hockeydb experts will tell you.

Jones + 2nd 2027 for Huberdeau straight up. Remind you of that Hiberdeaus contract is worst in the league.

That’s disappointing to hear, is there some history of him not getting along with teammates on top of that? Or as a result?

None whatsoever.

I hate Seth Jones with burning passion (CHI fan) but that is a serious reach by that poster.

His on ice product, IQ and effort are what suck about that guy. No known locker room issues at all (not that he's a leader type though from the outside.)

a chud that's not known to get along with team mates is going to be a massive loss and face a ton of backlash.

None whatsoever.

That was never an issue in Columbus either. His family has reactionary politics, but Jones has never been in your face about it with teammates and got along fine with his teammates in Columbus. I think this urban myth started when Dubois mysteriously quit on Columbus and there were various theories out there. One redditor or HFer made up some theory that people ran with about Jones pissing Dubois off with his political views. We now know that was completely groundless.

Redditors are chronically obsessed with politics... Seth Jones mom is a fairly active pro-Trump person on social media. As far as Jones himself, he liked a post announcing Trump winning Ohio back in 2016, which I think is about the extent of his political public persona.

For what it's worth, a large number of NHL players past and present are pro Trump or otherwise politically conservative. Jones would be far from an outlier inside any locker room if he supported Donald Trump or similar politicians in other countries.
