Sure you can get some bursts of offence out of them, but the problem is if they're not scoring then they're bringing absolutely to the game. It's the definition of empty-calorie hockey.

Janmark-Henrique-Brown at least makes the opposition work and tires them out, setting the stage for McDrai to have easier shifts later in the game. On the other hand, Skinner-Henrique doesn't force anyone to even raise their heart rate.

J. Skinner is done. Even if we get the odd good offensive performance out of him what's the point?

He's so small he's useless come playoff time.

He was brought in to be a winger for Drai and obviously that didn't work out........
 
Bad as that was, I really liked how they played when they were trying to get back into the game in the second period. They were making decisions instantly and moved the puck faster than the Penguins could adjust.
Unfortunately by the time they got that last PP they had gone back to "get the puck and stand around to see if anything opens up".

I don't care if you are a Skinner booster or detractor, he is a very hot and cold goalie and when he is cold he is borderline unplayable for that game. We need another option in net in case he goes cold when it matters most.

He's a scorer that the coach doesn't look to when the team needs a goal. What else needs to be said?

I appreciate that Skinner's kept a good attitude through all this, but the Oil need a physical presence at the bottom of this depth chart vs. another scorer.
Even a guy like Kostin, who's a limited player in his own right, would provide far more value to this roster and its Kane sized hole.

You can criticize Skinner for a lot of things but he is neither small nor weak. I watched Skinner's whole junior career. So I am not new to this player. He's not a perimeter player but he's certainly not going to be confused for a bruiser either. His biggest issue with the Oilers is that he has never really been much of a two way player.

Plays weak I guess would be the proper terminology. His time is done here for playing too soft. His foot speed seems to also be a bit of a problem.

Sabres fans couldn't wait to dump this guy. No idea why we went ahead and thought it would be a good idea.
 
This is all my fault, I looked at Stu's stats before the game and thought to myself how nice it was to see a number starting with a 9. Fortunately he's back down to where he belongs, a nice shiny 0.898.
 
They got caught with their pants down. Pittsburgh came out with a vengeance and we weren't prepared.

1. Pittsburgh came out like it was game 7 of the Stanley cup and the Oilers simply weren't prepared for it.
2. Stuart Skinner couldn't keep them in it or limit the damage to allow them time to get them on their feet. He wasn't the cause though imo. He was a victim of point 1.
3. Once the Oilers got on their feet they dominated utterly. But this team can't score enough to come back anymore. They create the opportunities to. But their finishing ability is just too poor for this to be a comeback hockey team.

The Oilers don't finish the opportunities they create to go down more than 2 goals. Hell even 2 goal leads seem insurmountable to this team. Not by the play on the ice. But the conversion of the chances they get. They just finish way too poorly. This is a different team then the comeback versions we've witnessed in years past.

They are the 23rd ranked team in shooting percentage.
They lead the league in shots per game.
They are 3rd in total chances and expected goals for.

If this team started converting their chances at even near top 10 rate in the league instead of bottom 5 in the league.. they'd be balls out amazing imo. That's how good I think they are. They took Pittsburgh to school after the 1st. Good for them not mailing it in.
 
Not knowing when to pull your goalie is probably Knob's biggest issue.

Stuart is a wannabe Mike Smith. Wants to stay in, wants to be the man when clearly he's more of a backup than a starter.

Stan, please get us a real starting goalie

I've barely seen him have any top 6 minutes. He gets shift here and there then right back to the bottom 6. Not a fair assessment to see if he can produce.

Coach doesn't have much of a brain to elevate struggling players. Look at McDavid hes been utter crap compared to past years. Maybe bringing up the skeletons out of the closet isnt what he needed as a coach in his 10th year. Maybe he needs a coach that wants to win and wont produce non stop excuses and show some f***in emotion.

I mean you can make a call and an assumption without seeing 15 games in the top 6. It's about making an observation.

Clearly Knobs who is around the player every day knows he's not a top 6 guy.
