Hoping the league is waiting to announce no suspension once tonight's games start so it gets swept under the rug since everyone will be watching the games.

So

Martinez-Phaneuf
Fantenberg-Folin
Ladue-Macdermid? Gravel?

Any configuration sucks. Would like to have Muzzin back if he's not rushed back. Would rather him sit the extra game.

Our Martinez - Phaneuf top pairing, as we all expected before the season started.

Martinez - Phaneuf
Gravel - Ladue
Fantenberg - Folin

This is gonna be the anti 2012. Instead of playing all the games with the same D core, we're gonna be the first team to win the cup while playing a different set of D men in every game. Bonus points if the whole D is on crutches to lift the cup.

There might have been 25% of the roster that was ready to play a playoff game. Doughty or no Doughty, that needs to change.

For us to have a chance of winning, Stevens needs to role with 4-D, and severely restrict the ice time of Gravel and Fantenberg. He needs to just role Martinez-Folin, and Phaneuf-LaDue, all game long. He can alternative Gravel for LaDue periodically, but Martinez, Folin, or Phaneuf need to be out nearly every shift.

This is a huge game. Not necessarily because going down 0-2 is bad, but because it will show the heart of this team. The team needs to come out of the gate aggressive and determined to get the first goal and win the game. Can't make excuses simply because Doughty is out.

Why? LaDue was le pew last game. Fantenberg was better.

Fantenberg was better, but he plays on the left side. So the pairing with Phaneuf has to be either LaDue or Gravel (who can play either side). Another option is to have Phaneuf-Folin, and move Martinez to right side and Fantenberg to left. The problem with that is there are two puck movers on one pairing, while two stay at home defensemen on the other pairing.

It's all going to be very situational, and on the fly with the defense tonight. They need a little bit from everyone. If they lose, they lose, but there's no top 4 to roll with. If they targeted Doughty, they're going to do the same with Martinez and/or Phaneuf without Doughty for sure. Maybe that much more so.

Quick needs to remain steady, the whole defense has to chip in, and the forwards have to actually do something. All of them, not just Kopitar.

They need to show up ready for a playoff game, which they weren't on Wednesday.

Guess we're getting a preview of the Doughtyless Kings once he signs a contract somewhere else.

Doughty will sign with the Kings. Once Vilardi comes in next season, the team takes a step up, offensively. Yes, he will make an impact his first year.
One reason why Blake has been signing players like Folin, Iafallo, Fantenberg, Brickley, is to fill out the team with under $1 million players.
Blake will continue to do this. He was also smart signing G - Cal Petersen, D- Austin Strand and G - Cole Kehler as well. The development team will continue to develop
prospects into players. With Clague, Amadio, Brodzinski and Jaret Anderson-Dolan 1-2 years away, bodes well also. JAD is going to be a great addition.
Cal Petersen may be Quick's replacement and when he comes in, will have a low salary and Quick's contract will open up a lot more room...I hope Quick
goes on forever, but Petersen may be the replacement. Austin Wagner may turn out to be a legit 3rd liner and will have a low salary.
DL did not have enough low salaried players and kept giving guys like Greene, Gaborik, and Stoll at least 2 more years on their contracts, then they should have.
This was detrimental to the future. Blake has impressed me in this area and these signings will go a long way to allowing him cap room that he will need.
All of these low salaried players greatly helps the cap situation and will give him room to sign Doughty. Why would Doughty want to leave?

Well at least with doughty out I don't have expectations of winning this one.

On the other hand, if quick can stand on his head again and they manage to squeak out a win it would be a huge boost to the team.

Let me get this straight.

Forborts injury was legit.
Doughty gets boned purposefully by the league so he's out.
And Muzzin, ducks under your every day check and has taken himself out of the series it seems.

f*** the DOPS

And f*** Muzzin.

Kings making the postseason this year has been like winning a prize car on a game show and then watching the producers light it on fire.

Missing Muzzin and Forbort, with special guest disappearance by Drew Doughty. And the offense dried up. Good Christ.

They have two things to take from the series so far. Quick has been all they could ask for, and they haven't lost at home yet.
