Habs fans, not trying to be an ass, but why do you guys boo without stopping every game? The Habs fans in this thread are cool, but the way the fans at the Belle Centre boo every time anyone breathes on a Hab makes you guys look AWFUL. It undermines your knowledge of the game, which is possibly the best in the league. I also can do without the "ole" chants, but whatever, I don't want to start THAT discussion because I don't want to cross a line.

Habs fan here. I think the boos can do the opposite for some people and show how knowledgable they can be about the game. Don't get me wrong, there's a bunch of people that are just going with the crowd mentality and booing when they have no idea what's going on - and in general I do find it annoying at times when everything is booed.

But without getting into much of the whole debate about habs home PPs and all, I think 22 thousand people screaming at you (as a ref) can have the added benefit (for the home team of course) of refs seeing the end certain plays, retaliations and making reactionary calls. You risk as a fan base being deemed a bunch of whiners (which might have the opposite effect for refs), but I've definitely seen a call or two go the habs way just because of the crowd "strategy"

I can answer one. :)

It probably seems like a lot of booing, but its mostly big time on Chara (who plays 30 min a game) and maybe just a few other players in the league.

Obvious dives or non-calls will be booed too.

Many Hab fans aren't too happy about Ole Ole either, but its basically just a happy crowd-frenzy type-of-thing.

We like our hockey up here... maybe too much. :help:

Expect King L. to be taunted in chants, though. That's nothing personal against NYR.

It's more like the boos that go on the whole game, not necessarily specific players. The "ole ole" thing is a soccer chant and I don't like it in Soccer, but at least it makes sense. It's like if you heard "Defense defense" at a European soccer game. I think that's an American football and NBA thing. It just gives off a "European" vibe, while you guys are in North America. It seems almost political, if you know what I mean.

When I'm watching a game i get annoyed at every single thing the fans of the other team are doing.

In reality, it's pretty cool. I love when fans are passionate like that. Like I said, during the game I'm a completely different monster, but I do think it's nice to have an arena full of people supporting their team like that. Over dramatic or not.

I go nuts when opposing fans at home boo offsides and icing calls that are clear infractions....I'm mean, I'm sorry you don't like the rules of hockey and all but.....:shakehead

Regarding Lundqvist getting taunted that happens everywhere. It's a pet peeve of mine when it's done in an instance when a goalie isn't playing poorly or didn't give up a soft goal. I remember Lundqvist played out of his mind in game 2 of last series, he gave up a goal that was deflected off his teammate and Penguins fans were chanting "Lundqvist". He was owning your ass and the only reason the Rangers still had a shot in the game. It seems somewhat ignorant to do that when a guy has been owning your team. Plus, I doubt it had any affect on him because of that. At least when a guy is playing a bad game, I can see how it may grate on him. But if a guy's in the zone, what's the point? In fact, I think I might start a thread about this on the main board.

Halfway there. We can debate about the living on a prayer stuff.

8 wins and 8 to go. It no longer matters what you think of whom. It no longer matters who was traded for whom. It no longer matters what sample size you use to evaluate this team. We can rehash all of these questions in the off season. There will be plenty of time to evaluate trades and performance latter. What matters now is that the Rangers are in the ECF. And are close enough to smell it. What matters is that the Habs are a very, very good team that just caused the exit of what many considered to be the best team in hockey.

I remember 1979. And who was the Habs goalie. Maybe there is some serendipity in that Henke is poised to take this place among such greats as one of the greatest big game goalies of memory. I remember 1994 and what it meant to me as a long suffering Rangers fan. I also remember the LOD running roughshod over the Rangers in another incarnation.

This team showed more guts and fortitude than I ever thought possible. Forget about coming back from 3-1 down for the first time in franchise history. They came back from being shut out in back to back games with an absolute vengeance. Having what in my mind is the best goalie on the planet helps, but every one contributed. Every one showed heart and a new determination. Yes, that even includes Nash who is playing in a way previously unseen. Yes, he needs to score. No doubt about that. But if Crosby still gets lauded for effort, then so too does Nash.

Richards is currently showing himself to be Big Game Brad. Staal was an absolute beast. He can play on any top pair in the league. I could care less how many points he scores. Pay him market value for a top-pairing defenseman, make him Captain and call it a day. Another name to mention is Boyle. Let's not quibble about his dollars. I would rather overpay him than underpay some journeyman 4th liner and then spend even more money in subsequent years trying to replace what Boyle brings. His contributions in the playoffs are invaluable and he truly raises his level in the post season.

And off course, Henke. Can the conversations now end about his level or just how good he is? Arguably the best in the league (as the song says, to me he is simply THE BEST), Best Rangers goalie that I ever recall. And that includes one that backstopped the '94 team. And for my money also includes Eddie.

The team played in a way that any Rangers fan would be proud of . They truly left it all out on the ice in the comeback. And, for my money, sticking it to Cindy is the icing on the cake.

Halfway. The Habs are a very, very good team. LGR!

who are you and what have you done with true blue?

One thing I'll say is that we lose to the Habs at least it won't be like losing to the dirty Devils 2 years ago. We already beat two rivals. Losing to the Habs will only suck because we lost, not because of who we lost to.

Taunting in print, on the other hand...

Well, I didn't taunt him game 2 when he was flat out amazing and the team was garbage. This isn't about Lundqvist, it's about any goalie that gets taunting chants when they're playing out of their mind. He's owning your team, why are you taunting him?

I am more confused / Perplexed by the fans at the bell than I am any other teams fans at home. Maybe it's an American / Canadian thing? Yet I don't see it with teams like Toronto.

I will definitely be rooting for them if they beat us.

Wasn't it you who answered a tad sarcastically to a poster regarding another writeup (a while ago) on how it was all poems to Chris Kreider ? Maybe i remember wrong, sorry :)

All poems to Carcillo. It was a joke reply to me commenting on his writeup saying "not enough #toffness".

Depends on who they play. If they play the Kings I'll be rooting like crazy for them, Chicago or Anaheim I'll root for either of those teams. Funny, I used to hate Anaheim, but I like how they play now. Ditto Chicago. I just want the Kings to go away.

Speak for yourself. I'm still traumatized by '86 :(

I like how Montreal plays, and their roster construction as well. Seeing Montreal end their longest Cup drought in their history would be epic. I like Anaheim's team as well but talk about a snoozer.

I wouldn't be able to handle it. I'm not even in Quebec and when they beat Boston there was a 50 car parade in my neighborhood.
