Sens have 5 shutouts this season... not bad for a team struggling defensively
Indeed, that was a very good post. And it's exactly what I am thinking. I got fooled by Cameron since he had the results in his first 82 games with the team but I think it's more his players that made him look good.
Special units let us down. That's definitely the conclusion of this season. And with the personnel in place, there's no reason why we shouldn't have success in those departments.
I think that's what Borowiecki is talking about. Karlsson has to play defensively first and then think about the offense. Sometimes it looks like he is trying to break offensive records too much.
THE PROBLEM, is that the team is playing from behind WAY TOO MUCH.
Exact. Sens special units have been super inefficient and goaltending has been decent but average. You need great goaltending in this league because many other teams get it.
Hopefully next year, O'Connor and/or Hogberg start knocking at the door and put some (sane) pressure on Andy and Hammond
That was just a start... And the quality was low because it was the results of Muckler's dradting (except Smith) so you could add Gryba, O'Brien and whoever to that list. But then, Murray acquisitions (Turris, Anderson, Methot, Ryan, MacArthur, etc.) and prospects (Stone, Hoffman, Zibanejad, Pageau, Ceci, Silfverberg, Wiercioch, Borowiecki, etc) arrived...
To be a consistent playoffs team and progress with their level of contention. What? Do you think teams are contenders overnight?
This man gets it. Our PK is atrocious this year and has been one of the main reasons we are where we are. The PP is not much better. It's on the coaches. There is no reason this team should be last in PK and near last PP.

Agreed, Karlsson was excellent defensively tonight, and a great example that he can play Norris caliber defense.

I agree in todays NHL is all about special teams and goaltending, if you have a great powerplay and a goaltender that can shut the door on the PK you'r in business.

Everything else is in place? For what? To squeak into the playoffs or challenge for a Stanley cup?
