I don't get why people are talking about modeling the Senators after the Leafs. We did the youth movement 3 years ago when we had Greening, Smith, Condra et. al. coming up from Binghamton after they won the Calder Cup. That was our youth movement. We are in the final stages of a rebuild.

What we need is a new coach. Everything else is in place. We have goaltending, we have defence (now) and we have the scoring.

As someone else posted already, if you just move our PP/PK up to the top 20 in the league we are most likely a playoff team. Those are things that coaches have the most control over.

Why it's been the entire season without these things being addressed I honestly don't know. If I was Cameron I wouldn't even talk about anything else except the PP and PK. I'm serious, every conversation, every walk-through, every practice, every video review session should only be about those 2 things.

This may sound crazy, but as of right now I would rank him #3 of the most important forwards on the team after Stone and Turris. He's the type of player you win with. All heart and consistent effort.

Nah, let's expose him to the expansion draft.

This man gets it. Our PK is atrocious this year and has been one of the main reasons we are where we are. The PP is not much better. It's on the coaches. There is no reason this team should be last in PK and near last PP.

Therrien just has to be gone in the offseason right? I mean can they really keep him after what happened this season? The guy is even breaking franchise records, but not exactly the type of records you want to break.

His team has already broken the franchise record for worst collapse and now his team broke the franchise record for most shorthanded goals in a game.

Beauty watching Karlsson shut down cherry picking Max Pac and their garbage offense. Beautiful defense by him tonight.

I agree in todays NHL is all about special teams and goaltending, if you have a great powerplay and a goaltender that can shut the door on the PK you'r in business.

Yup

Hard to imagine Gretzki had a season of 215pts

And the 282 in a season of Lemieux in junior wahhhhh :amazed:

Yeah but in those years goaltenders had practically no equipment on!!! just compare a goaltender from the 80's with one today and you will know why in those years a 8-7 games was a norm.

Everything else is in place? For what? To squeak into the playoffs or challenge for a Stanley cup?

I have to admit, it was a lot more fun in the 80s when goalies actually had to move to make a save.

He did play last night

Oh, not sure if that's my bad or Pumpel's then.

I knew he played, it was a sort of sarcasm on my part. Pumpel has probably entered bust territory along with Prince. It's a good thing some other guys like Dzingel and McCormick are willing to put in the work to play in the NHL because otherwise Ottawa's prospect pool would be even more shallow than it already is.

He's been very underwhelming. Dzingle has been outplaying him consistently. I guess he'll be given more chances as he was a 1st rounder, but he has to start doing something with those chances. I'm afraid he's looking like a career AHL'er.

Puempel has always been, and always will be, a complimentary player. He goes to the net, he's got great finish and he's decent in the corners. He's just not a puck carrier nor does he create chances very often on his own. That's not a complaint, just the way he is in my opinion. Complimentary guys can be very useful.

Puempel isn't going to be a top 6 guy, I hope he can become a solid 15-15 3rd liner, but even then I have my doubts. It's unfortunate, but we came out of the 2011 draft with Zib and Pageau, so I'm not to mad about Puempel/Noesen (injuries ruined him, he was a beast).

Zib
Pageau
Puempel
Claesson
McCormick
Dzingle

2 core players and 4 complimentary NHLers for the team is an outstanding draft. Could have made better use with our 3 1st's, but hindsight is 20/20.

Stone's play on the Pageau goal was nuts. For a guy whose supposed weakness is footspeed he takes a puck in the skates flat footed, and instead of dumping it just skates into open space, leading to a 2 on 1 goal.
He is a very special player

And how about Phaneuf? The guy was a wrecking ball last night. He brings a much needed level of toughness to the top 4. He also gets away with so many slashes and cross checks. Hope the refs don't start calling them now that he's no longer a Leaf.

You're not kidding. In front of the net, his stickwork really distracts their net-front F3. I'm lovin' it.

What a game! Feels good to destroy Montreal.

That being said I found the intermissions hilarious. The Senators game was never talked about after the 1st or 2nd intermission, or after the game.

Also I think the way CBC is trying to change things with respect to how they "analyze" the games is just terrible.

First of all Stroumboulopoulos and his "crew" are always standing and keep walking around awkwardly like they are gesturing at one another for a fight, 4 guys just talking whilst on a stroll.

Last night they had four stools to sit on, however we are looking at the back of the heads of the two guys closest to the camera and nobody's face can be seen clearly.

TSN has it down. First of all they have people who know what hockey is and can add insight into the game. Second they actually talk about the game being played. Third the viewer can see all of their faces as they sit in a row FACING the camera and answer questions one by one unlike CBC where there are no cues and everyone is constantly talking over one another.
