Had a chance to do some work with John Howard Society of Ottawa this morning for the first time in 8 years. I love the social service network in Ottawa, its such a good family and everyone looks out for the other organization.

Miss Ottawa so much, especially the services they offer people in need relative to the GTA.

Submariner fits like a dream on most normal sized wrists. One of the reasons it's so popular. Just a really well-constructed and well-designed watch all around. A bit of a shame that they've become so exclusive.

My first "nice" watch was a quartz TAG Aquaracer. I don't get to wear it much anymore but it will always have a special place in my heart. Love the Monaco. It pulls off the square dial better than any other watch IMO.
The Monaco is not good for me as I need a watch that shows the date too using the alphabet for month, 2 digits for date in month and 4 digits for the year. I am old and need all the help I can get. :)

Sounds like you need a perpetual calendar.

Best place to dump old Uni textbooks? I have no 'romantic' connection to them but for the money I spent Valu Village or Salvation Army just seems so wrong. That's where they probably belong tho.

When my brother in-law passed away, many years ago, he had a book collection that he had accumulated from the time he was in university and from many garage sales, church second hand stores and many technical books from educational courses he took to keep his IT accreditation up to date, and the Ottawa Public Library were more than grateful when we donated (twoSUV loads) the bulk of his collection to them.

How old are they, if current enough you might be able to resell them, but if we're talking 10+ yrs old I suspect donating them is the way it plays out....

Was going to recommend the public library.

Not looking for any money, just don't want them to go to rot. They're basically new (a few unopened, lol). All around 2010 which makes them still relevant but out of date enough to make them worthless. Local library is probably the way to go.

Or a university library?
You'd be suprised just how picky they are. My grandmother tried to donate a pile of books from the the 1800's and they just told her to chuck 'em. "Too high a chance of mould" they told her. You'd think they'd at least spend a bit of time sifting through it all just in case there is something there.

this weekend

-7.4 seconds, the Raptors go up by 1. Atlanta calls a time out and inbounds at mid court. Tre Young gets the ball, they clear out. He dribbles to the basket, misses and his teammate puts in the rebound.

can anyone play defense in the NBA

- Dan Campbell's testosterone level has cost Detroit big time.. twice he needed to kick the field goal on 4th down. ... this on top of his decision to not kick the tying extra point against Dallas.

biting knee caps is great, wise decisions are better

- every sporting event televised today, runs 10-30 minutes over its slotted time.. f***ing commercials. It tool 20 minutes to play the final 3 minutes of the 1st half of the Chiefs-Ravens, They went to 5 sets of 3 minute breaks.

- Man United was tied 2-2 with Newport County before pulling away and wining 4-2.. it is on par with the Tampa Lightening being tied with an ECHL team.

what a crazy weekend.

I'm just happy a lot of Wings fans are miserable.

They deserve a kick in the nads
There's a lot of overlap for sure, and Wings fans don't deserve happiness.

But the Lions-only fans are the ones I feel awful for. Great season, an incredibly likeable team, a dedication unmatched by most fanbases... and THAT lemon to end the season on. It'll be remembered fondly, but woof.

Horrid outcome to both games. Zay fumbling through the endzone was soul crushing.

Lamest SB imaginable. I may not watch.

I absolutely never watch american football, but I was liking that Lions story. Might've actually tuned in if they'd made it

Very likeable team. They flew too close to the sun with their 4th down shenanigans though.

Dan Gamble got too big for his britches.

Every time I visit this thread, I am reminded how different of a class I am in compared to some of the others here.
It's kind of funny in a bleak way. Luxury watches and sports cars, meanwhile some of us are wondering where our next rent payment's coming from. No shade to anyone intended, but it's an interesting look at the kinds of underpinning lived experiences that inform some takes around here.

I've had a lot of downtime at work so I'm always applying for random gigs. I applied to MLSE a while back to be support staff for the ASG, going to be working it everyday! Hope I run into NHL players , especially one I dislike so i can ask for their pictures and then mope about how I didn't tell em I hate em

That's a great gig! Congrats.

City is going to be fun this weekend.
