    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I feel tremendous guilt for having a child, that's for sure, but that's not isolated to today.

Don't care what happens to me though. And I definitely give no f***s about the future of humanity. Ants on an anthill until the species is eradicated and another one takes hold eventually. It's inevitable. Hopefully the next one is cool like the Dinosaurs and not lame like humans though.

Don't feel guilty for having a child. Use that as motivation to make your life and your child's life better.

My dad was poor growing up. At first he was in a one bed room apartment with his crib in the living room. His parents didn't buy a house until he was in his 20s and moving out. Didn't have a coloured tv until the mid 70s.

But he uses that as motivation to get a good education and good job and now he's retired with a pension living in a million dollar place.

Obviously your concerns are more with the world, but just do your part in making everything around you better..

People in previous generations had it much much much worse...world wars with millions dying... illnesses killing millions that we've now cured.

You could argue something like "1995 was better" or something, but generally speaking, this is the best time to be alive! Sure, the economy is a little tough right now and there's a couple crazy leaders of countries out there... But that's always been the case. At least now we have technology to make our life easier that people didn't have before, while they also had to deal with the world seeming to be ending.

Imaging living in world war 1 and everything is going to shit...but it also takes you 3 hours to do laundry, and an hour to do dishes.

Give me a modern laundry machine, wifi, dishwasher, Netflix, 75" tv, etc.

I don't get the people that are so doomy and gloomy..open up a history book and you'll realize how amazing we have it now.

Just replying to the first post of yours I see as I can't find the post I want to reply to.

I remember you saying you only drive your car in sport mode or sport + mode because of the thrill or excitement.

I wanted to ask you if you drive it in manual mode or automatic?

I always seem to go manual mode when I go in sport or N mode because I find in automatic, it hangs or holds high RPM for track/race purposes, so if I give the gas hard to get infront of a guy but then let off...it will hold my rpm at like 5,000 incase I'm about to full throttle again, so I always wonder if it sounds weird to others hearing some car hold 5,000rpm for like 2-3 seconds while cruising in traffic lol.

Isn't that part of the problem now? We can sit at home and surf the net, watch netflix and play a fiddle comfortably while Rome burns...so to speak. That's why it's been so easy the last few decades for evil to take over.

Like being on the titanic...the first class suites and general opulence were so nice, no one could believe the ship could sink...until you're knee deep in water.

So the problem is we have it so good that it must mean the ship is sinking?

Previous generations had it much much worse. I'm guessing you're young....don't remember the cold war?

Not too long ago I saw a video of how they were teaching kids how to cover under their desks in case of a blast.

We may be going through some political shit, but I don't remember hearing on the 5 o'clock news that Ottawa students are being trained to take cover.

Unless you're American and your kids have to deal with school shootings?

I think all the upgrades and switches of platform are the killers

Why wouldn't they copy the site, and then try to upgrade the copy, so if anything fails, they have the original site untouched.

I'm no expert in software, but that strategy has saved me many many times. Copy and alter the copy. Save the original. Any issues? Go back to the original and keep working on the copy on the side until it's ready to launch.

More like, we're so comfortable, that people won't get off the couch and leave their homes to stop bad things from happening until the evil is on our doorstep (and too late to stop). The whole bread and circuses thing....we've got one hell of a nice circus keeping everyone occupied these days.

The best sites have multiple backups, security and other communications network capabilities. We paid a lot for redundancy where I worked.

Should I have gone to Parliament to protest trump instead of feeding my newborn daughter on the couch? Lol

People have escaped from Adrianopolous Island. Damn this update or whatever it was. It appears the chickens are loose in the fox den.

But look what happens when people stand up for themselves, the media rallies those people you speak of against the people that get of the couch and makes them the threat.

Seriously, people think inflation is bad today? In the 1970s, inflation reached 13%, the Bank's policy interest rate reached 21%, and unemployment topped 13% and yet I was born and life was good, Saturday morning cartoons, The birth of video games, Knight Rider, come on man. lol

Exactly. My nieces are 5 and 7. They're loving life. Obsessed with Peppa pig one day. Obsessed with frozen the next. Loving life and full of joy. Soon they'll be able to grow up to be excitable and full of joy just like their pretty cool uncle is.

Life is what you make of it. Worry more about your circle and less about the news.

The news is always looking for ways to get your attention. COVID this. Truck rally that. Trudeau this. Trump that.

Life seems awful when you're buried in the 6 o'clock news or scrolling through social media. Life is awesome when you worry about your loving wife or husband and your kids and your friends and your hobbies. It's actually amazing and peaceful. People should try it. Put your phone down and spend time with the family today. Go outside. Get stuff done. Go for a car ride with the windows down. Clean the house. Listen to music. make a nice dinner. Maybe a fire in the fireplace. Have a drink or 2. Smoke a bowl or two. Eat an edible. Watch the sens kick the Leafs butt. Just find joy in life. You only get one life.

No offense but things are actually really tough out there for most people. You don't seem to be very aware of your privilege and just assume everyone else has the same advantages and dismiss their concerns. This is pretty typical for well-off white people from the Ottawa region though.

You do make some good points and I actively try to remind myself of others with worse circumstances, including some of the most egregious like the holocaust victims, extreme poverty, etc. That can have a powerful effect. Still, it can be difficult to ignore realities like not having the financial clout to ever retire, no support system, sick or dying friends/family, or my son being bullied. I try, but up and down daily battle really. I exercise regularly, eat very well, don't drink, and I still find it a battle to regulate. Much of it relates to my own issues more than just the state of society though, so I probably misrepresented a bit there, but things like counseling and other mental health supports are prohibitively expensive, so it's out of reach for most people and they're left to deal alone. I have a good benefits plan and it covers like 3 sessions a year.

Life is a series of losses and I'm at that age where I've lost many and I know life is not fairy tales or rainbows and butterflies. It's hard to pretend for the kid sometimes and I don't look forward to coaching him through some of the upcoming losses. It's really just us spinning our wheels like ants until the eternal unconsciousness takes over when we die, rendering our existence meaningless, but he still believes there's great things left to discover or accomplish. To quote Mike Tyson, "we're nothing, we're just dust. We just die and that's it." lol.

We live in a time that's much more comfortable than ever, no denying that, but cell phones and social media have also helped to ruin much of the fun and connection ime. The 90's were unquestionably a better time imo, granted I had my youth and wasn't jaded then, but still, I think that part is still true. Now we're living in an era of extreme right wing politics taking over that I don't jive with. I want what's best for my neighbours, not to take what's theirs. I actively try to avoid all media but it's difficult and a lot of people don't respect it and feel you need to be informed, so it still invades.

I also think the next generation is in a tough spot with housing especially. I don't know how that ever course corrects. A reasonable house here in the Yukon is well over 500k. Prohibitively expensive and almost completely untenable for anyone not in a relationship or sitting on a healthy inheritance. That all said, the power of the mind is real and those in poverty can realistically be just as happy if not happier than those with enough wealth that their life is easy.
