Not having your license will be career limiting just in the fact that you can't take any job where even a smidgeon of travel is required.

Plus for more entry level positions may make it a black mark as they think that you don't have a reliable way to get to work
When I do pros/cons for getting a car, I find the cons out weigh the pros. For me anyways. I hate driving + all the costs. Ill save so much money in my life.

Also waiting out for robot cars.
They might need you for hours that aren't covered by local bus routes. That seems to be the only reason they'd ask about transportation.

Good point.

Andy played in a beer league game a few nights ago, and this guy tells the story of how he scored on him. Pretty cool stuff, even though I wish Craig had gotten the SO. ;)

You really should get a car unless you are living in a city with excellent public transit (not many in North America). But I agree self driving cars will be great)

Getting a car VS getting a license are very different.

I contemplate every once in a while getting rid of my car as I'm pretty much walking everywhere now. But I love having it for driving to hockey and going to visit my folks out of the city. While I do spend more money than not having a car, the convenience of driving and not having to depend on anyone is so worth it (for me). But not having a license is something I couldn't ever imagine. Even my brother who hates driving and doesn't own a car is glad he has a license for the one in a blue moon times he heads to a sugar shack or out to the country or whatever it may be.

eating at times when our bodies are programmed not to be eating...

..realise this topic has passed a bit now but this was one of the worst parts for me when I used to work nights, I'd be hungry but totally not feel like eating. Another worst part was the place I lived at the time didn't have any clock and I'd wake up in the afternoon and have no way to know what time it was.

I'd do one week on (22:00-8:00) and then have a whole week off. The slight advantage I found was that during the week on I would spend essentially no money whatsoever because I did nothing but sleep and work so it was easy to save money.

Even so I only lasted about six months before asking to be switched to days.

As to cars, I got my licence when I was 16 but only went up to G2 which then expired when I was outside of Canada so now I actually don't have it, though I theoretically know how to drive, but haven't been behind the wheel in over 15 years and don't know how to drive stick, which is basically all there is here in Europe. My wife got her licence a few years ago, originally with the idea of us not getting a car, but of course as soon as she got it every said "well now you have to practice so you need a car". So we did get one in the end, a cheap old one for about a thousand bucks, and I couldn't fathom having spent more on it, despite the people who were telling us to go into debt to get a better one. It is the money sink I imagined it would be, gas alone ends up costing about as much as taking the train or bus would (cheap good transit here), though naturally you get the convenience of not being beholden to schedules and getting right to your destination and taking more with you. But repairs are something you'll never avoid, plus BS like recently our car got broken into, radio stolen, lock kind of broken, they tried to peel off our highway toll sticker and we can thank our stars they didn't break a window. All in all I can't really seeing it being worth the hassle unless you live in the country.

Good lord, that's a cool story. And they're rocking vintage Sabres gear, too? Man. Playing against an NHL goalie would be a dream come true... even if I can't score against even a subpar beer leaguer.

Anderson in decline confirmed. Got beat by beer leaguer.

It actually probably is easier for a beer leaguer to score a garbage goal just because all his muscle memory is trained on nhl level shots

I mean I know it's almost harder to pull off a shutout in a rookie beginner game than it is at my usual beer league rec level just because you'll move across to make a save, except that they don't handle the puck as well it sits on their stick and then you've over committed to what you expect to happen.
That or 90% of the shots you see are simple things and then that one time someone accidentally has the puck in the sweet spot of their stick and roofs it top corner on you while their head is looking down at their feet

Can fool your kids for quite a while (before they get too old) with that picture.
"See here? Daddy played in the NHL for the Buffalo Sabres. Scored a goal against Mr. Anderson who played for the senators and who's role was played by keanu in the matrix movies" "ok, go do your homework"

Yup I totally agree. Stepping down from an average league where I belong to like a really low level league and you have no idea wtf is going on.

Actually I've played in a higher league than I'm used to a couple of times and I did a better job because I was able to predict and anticipate the shots more. Plus your D helps you out a lot more it felt weird. All I had to do was make sure I stopped the initial shot and didn't worry about anything else and we won the game 2-1. I thought I was going to get lit up before the game.

Some players though man, shots are just too fast for me.

Kathleen Wynne needs to gtfo. This bs about every 2nd car being electrical and heating our homes with electricity. Know how much that will cost? She just spews nonsense on a daily basis. It'll be a good day when she's out.

my house is heated by radiated ceilings. Cost was $400 a month averaged out. Put in a wood pellet stove in the basement. This year was mild so didnt use as much, but last year was going through a bag every other day. Dropped hydro bill down by about $75 a month.

Looking into heat pump. Gonna cost $5,000 but should drop hydro down another $100 a month and it includes central air.

I play in a league right now which is supposed to be low level beer league... but it seems to be filled with girls teams who didn't quite do enough to be extremely competitive... but there is NO way they are recreational teams. But beyond them being faster with better shots they are way easier to predict. Obviously we don't really win much because they are way faster... but when we do (aka our goalie is on fire) the other team gets so angry.... it makes me laugh.

Also girls can be total *****es! The amount of name calling and fighting is insane.

Sounds like why Hammond has done better in the NHL, those players in the AHL suck to much for him ;)

Shooting against an NHL goalie would be fantastic, I've always wondered if I'd have a chance at scoring on one

then you've defeated yourself already. You CAN score on one. Now you just need the opportunity. (get it on video or it didn't happen)
