Deku, does your religious and conservative family know about your atheism? I was reluctant to tell my family I'm an atheist, and they're neither religious or conservative.

Mine are super religious. Might as well be Mormon.

They still don't know I'm atheist

I told my folks about my atheism when I was sixteen and they didn't mind at all. They're the only people that I have told.

Yeah my parents know that I "don't believe anymore", but the only reason I used to accept religion is because they were authority figures telling me what to think and do. Then I grew up and was able to think for myself... thankfully I wasn't too indoctrinated

They aren't happy or really even accepting of it, but they reluctantly tolerate it because ultimately they are nice people.

If you family isn't religious, why were you reluctant? Or why did it really matter?

By not religious, I really just meant lazy Catholics.. My mom is also nuts.

I'm happy that they were understanding enough to tolerate it. I have a friend who was forced to attend youth groups (as well as church service regularly) after telling his parents about his beliefs, or lack of. It was pretty sad, and ultimately ruined their relationship. He also smokes a ridiculous amount of weed, and is pretty despondent, so I'm sure that was a contributing factor to the deterioration. He's now 18, rents an apartment, and doesn't speak to his parents much.

My old man is being a stubborn fool right now. He has torn rotator cuff in his shoulder and is in an extreme amount of pain. For the past few weeks he had been moaning and whining about the pain and yet he's not doing anything about it. Just a little while ago I was trying to convince him to go to the emergency room, but the dumb idiot is refusing to go and get help. He is driving me nuts.

It's gotten to the point where I've threatened to call an ambulance for him if he starts to whine about the pain again. That threat seems to be working for now, though I'd never waste emergency resources for something like this.

I need a drink.

You should tell him that either he can let a doctor look at his shoulder, or you will do the surgery yourself, but come hell or high water someone is going to do something about it... it's his choice.

I would have thought so too but from my facebook middle school friends it seems like most of them are still religious. I'd say the ratio is eighty to twenty percent. Interestingly enough the people who I were really good friends with back ended up being the less religious or not religious ones.

Pretty much everyone I interact with is "officially" catholic but doesn't go to church and probably doesn't give all that much thought to religion. I suppose I'm agnostic, I don't have strong feelings either way, and frankly I don't really care, but I'm also "officially" catholic. I'm baptized, I went through catholic school, did all the sacrements, and the once every few years I get dragged to church I say the responses and receive the host. I guess it may be different for those who come from super religious settings, but I never really understood the idea of "coming out" as atheist or why people even identify as atheists.

This is exactly 100% it. For some, like myself, coming out as an atheist is the equivalent of someone coming out as a Jew to Hitler

Let us know what it's like. I'm always curious about the aptitude tests.

Seemed to go alright. For the first few questions I was a little concerned because I was expecting the questions to be more objective, but as it went on I felt I got what they were looking for.

I used a far more potent weapon: his angry wife.

My diet is going well and to date I have lost approximately 170lbs.

Hahaha, I was looking for an old Sens-related article about Wade Redden, and found that my Indonesian ISP has blocked OttawaSun.com on grounds that it contains pornographic images.

I GUESS I CAN'T READ THE SUN ANYMORE, BOO HOO.

... hilarious...

I remember everyone complaining about Chinese censorship while I was there... No facebook, google, etc...

However I browsed though my free UVIC VPN and so it was porn central in my suit.

... And educational things... Other educational things... for kids...

Whatever

Defrosting steak in cold water and the water has turned red. Never seen that before. Has the meet lost some of its natural juices? Will it be a worse flavour? Is it nothing to worry about?

Yeah, I'm rocking Astril right now as my VPN.

Having a VPN is basic training for surfing Indonesian internets. That's like base-level stuff. SO MUCH stuff is blocked, it's insane.

They blocked CNN at one point. CNN!

Wait... did you just put the raw steak into the cold water on it's own? You're just leeching out some of the plasma/ juices from the steak, yeah. It won't make the steak inedible or anything, but yeah, it's probably going to be a weaker steak now. More bland.

You're supposed to put the steak in a ziploc bag, THEN put it in the water.
