I lived in Hull for a few months once... across the street from the SAQ Depot.

I'm in Hull right meow

Enjoying my 245$ monthly rent

Yeah it's a terrible place to be in but at least I'm French Canadian and it's a ten minute bike ride from the market

That's for a room right? When i looked at apartments across the river they were cheaper, but a 2 bedroom was still a decent amount.

I had a work-term in Gatineau in 2011 and I was paying 350 a month, with a Roommate, + utilities. So Like 450 or so a month for a 2 bedroom, 1 kitchen 1 bathroom, and a deck.

Jesus . . . my girlfriend and i are paying just over twice that for a 2 bedroom near algonquin. Its a decent apartment, but man . .. i could use an extra 450 a month.

The place wasn't very appealing, it was me and another guy in my class from St. John's that took a work-term at the same spot (BDO Canada), and the place was a 5 minute walk from work, Rue du Bromont I think was our street? Anyway, we were only there for a semester, I wouldn't have stayed at a place like that long term. It was an extremely nice house, and great neighborhood, but the basement apartment was pretty small. The owners used the other half of the basement for themselves, and the backyard was only a small deck from the door for us, and no driveway. They just used the small apartment to help with their mortgage if I was guessing. It was about 450-500 each a month counting utilities.

I currently live in Morrisville and I work on Syracuse University. If you google the directions you'll see it's about an hour drive. I live in a somewhat cozy but shabby apartment which is half of a house (I'm on the right):

Heat, electric, gas & water is included - only thing I pay for is cable. Rent is $550/mo and I have the basic cable + standard internet (15 down / 1.5 up). I wish to move for a few reasons: I don't like losing 2+ hrs a day driving; it gets dirty really easily between the carpeting and the heating vents even with constant vacuuming; the length of the drive increases about an hour in the wintertime when I have to get up extra early to make sure my car starts and I get enough time to accommodate weather; the landlords and their kids appear to have some type of weird habit where they pick up large pieces of furniture and drop them from various heights causing the house to shake.

My plan is to move to the Jefferson Towers. It's a 30 min walk which would be good to walk each day, it has good reviews, and all utils are included except cable. The only downside is I would probably accept only a 1BR + 1BA at a minimum and that would be $900/mo, so a $350 increase in my rent. Ideally I would not use much gas as I'd be right on the busline and my company has a free unlimited bus pass, the walking would be good, I'd be right across from the OnCentre (for when Bingo comes to town), and I'll also be right off of I-81 for trips up to Ottawa saving an hour. My only concern is I may have to deal with problem tenants (roaches, loud music, parties from SU students, etc). Like most realtors they run pretty thorough credit checks and I read that a lot of doctors and lawyers reside there so that shouldn't be an issue. I think it will be a good move, but basically have to save up $3K (1st, last + security + moving expenses) so I'm working on that.

My values have always aligned with the PCs but, surprisingly, I'm finding myself agreeing with a lot of NDP values and ideals. It'll come down to either them or the PCs for me (I don't like either leader - ugh).

The Liberals have the least desirable option in almost every category for me. I don't understand why they should be even considered after the hell, fire and brimstone that was conjured up for the last 11 years.

What we do environmentally is pretty much moot.

There's almost no difference to be made nationally when there are industrial countries like China that are creating thousands times more pollution than all of North America.

Having a Green party win a provincial election in Canada could open a lot of eyes around the world and help out other Green parties in the world. It would be a big deal.

The Greens are a big deal in Germany and that hasn't done anything in getting people together and actually doing something

On the Climate Change front we are completely ****ed: we had a chance to do something once it became clear something was up in the late 90's but our societies decided luxury was more important. While I'm no alarmist in that I don't think the end is just around the corner, I think that our children are going to hate us

Except they will never win, and Canada is an after thought when it comes to the rest of the world :P

The last time NDP won in Ontario... ugh...
They're one of those parties that should perpetually be opposition party but never the leading party because they absolutely tank the economy and everything else.

But I suppose we can go back to having 19yo girls deciding to get pregnant for the third time because the baby bonus cheques/welfare money is better than actually getting a job.

I've traditionally aligned with PC interests - but actually wouldn't mind Green winning some seats, if only because their technology platform last I checked was the most relevant to current day situations.

Holy hyperbole

I hate the NDP but it's pretty low to blame individual idiocy on who's in power

I need to actually read the details of some of these points but I think there's more in the PC category with an equal split between NDP and Green otherwise. Though there's a couple items in Green I'm dead set against.
