Herd immunity...a poster brought this up a week ago.

as more and more people get it, there is less and less bodies it can jump to.

so, all people who are being careless, all people who are being stupid. All brave and bravado...all, who are diminishing the danger...Go out and about..catch it. Risk your health.

We the smart ones will isolate ourselves. Insulate our selves and wait for herd immunity...Those careless, reckless, etc..well expose yourself to a 70% chance of getting it and ~ 5-10% chance of dying..

your actions will be heroic..it will save us...Stupid, as you will risk your own health and that of your immediate family and friends..but the rest of us, thank you.

In fact., the higher the dumb people out there, the better. Herd immunity will kick in that much quicker.

all the harsh measure taken today...aimed at protecting us..those that disagree..fine, get out there and accelerate herd immunity

Being careless and diminishing the danger are not one in the same.

Italy is so out of control. Incredibly sad the deaths and it seems that the lockdown is not having the desired effect

Just got back from loblaws, went to grab a few things. Out of ground beef, eggs, a few other things.

People emptied that store out of most meat, eggs, milk, soup, rice, pasta, canned fruit. Every single bag of flour.

Nevermind toilet paper.

All I wanted was a couple pounds of ground beef and a carton of eggs lol.
Yeah I'm wanting make some giant burgers on my Kamado pretty damn bad...

I got my two dozen eggs at my local Costco yesterday, but even they were out of ground beef and toilet paper (though I don't actually need the latter).

Also beans are out everywhere, so no making a pot of chili as a way to get dinner done while trying to manage a two year old stuck inside at home all day.

Why not just to a normal grocery store? Was at Adonis yesterday and the place had no shortage of anything.

Chili hack: Buy Kefta spiced ground beef and use that for your chili.

My local grocery stores were bare shelves already around me. Sunday, the one had to hire a security guard to control access and there was a lineup across the plaza it was in.

Nate Silver predicted with almost complete certainty that Hillary Clinton would win in 2016.

There is a difference between "she is the overwhelming favourite" and "she is for sure winning".

Tampa was the overwhelming favourite over Columbus last year. The fact that they were swept doesn't mean that them being the favourites was wrong. Sometimes the opposition overperforms.

Italy was too late in understanding the enormity of the situation.

The lesson here is acting late is a massive problem. The paradox of effective containment is that when it does work, it looks like it wasn't required.

No offense but this is way beyond you ;)

Why is the Alberta Chief Medical Officer out of her self-isolation? Did she get tested immediately or something? The test is not 100% accurate. Kind of weird.

Also going forward it would be nice if Ontario and Canada had the ability to ramp up testing. South Korea and even Italy have managed to do it. I understand you can't test everyone but we're testing in the tens of thousands while South Korea and Italy managed hundreds of thousands. It would be nice to understand the scale... like with the Barrie death some guy from Alberta traveling not knowing he had it likely infected this man. What if he knew he had mild symptoms and was denied testing? What if he had easy access to testing? Maybe that death doesn't happen.

But instead we're in the dark and the suggestion is anyone showing any symptoms should stay at home and they will not be tested until it gets to a point medical intervention is needed.

the death % has climbed from 5% to 9% in the last ~ 10 days. That is incredibly troubling. It would suggest that either it is now among the weaker and more susceptible, or health care cannot assist or has broken down in nations dealing with it.

neither scenario is good.

Health professionals jump the queue to minimize their time in self-isolation. So that they can get back on the frontlines ASAP.

Dr Hinshaw’s tests came back negative.

That's not an answer. She's at a press conference not treating patients. A negative does not necessarily mean negative.

She wasn’t symptomatic for COVID-19 and tested negative. I take it you’ve seen her full schedule then?

She was symptomatic which is why she put herself in isolation to begin with a day ago.

I haven't seen her full schedule but I do know that 14 days do not pass in 24 hours. I have no reason to believe she lied about having symptoms.

The test is not 100% accurate. The recommendation of isolation is one she (or they) decided not to follow because of a press conference.

We don’t have enough tests to test everyone who should be tested, let alone testing everyone.

I’m not sure what the deal is there, but I can imagine that there is a massive global drain of the resources required to make and assemble the kits.
