How ‘bout them markets?

I predicted in early February that the low for this current global catastrophe would be a 19,888.00 DJI average with WTI hitting just over $20 and WCS just under $10.

I feel like I might have to read-evaluate these numbers... The 5 and 6 year unemployment numbers that have been thrown out there are hyperbole for sure - well, the length anyways. I think we’re close to the bottom for the markets anyways.

I fully expect most of the retail sector to go down for two months and the restaurant sector for four. Gyms and rec Centers are a wild card imo.

the death % has climbed from 5% to 9% in the last ~ 10 days. That is incredibly troubling. It would suggest that either it is now among the weaker and more susceptible, or health care cannot assist or has broken down in nations dealing with it.

neither scenario is good.

Makes sense, lots of places where it was just starting to spread had yet to see their first deaths, but perhaps more importantly Italian hospitals are having to let people die because they don't have the resources. Gotta be super hard for the healthcare workers there

She was symptomatic which is why she put herself in isolation to begin with a day ago.

I haven't seen her full schedule but I do know that 14 days do not pass in 24 hours. I have no reason to believe she lied about having symptoms.

The test is not 100% accurate. The recommendation of isolation is one she (or they) decided not to follow because of a press conference.

Clearly you didn’t watch the full press conferences.

I think we're about halfway through the current drop. Dow might hit 16,500 or so. Full effects on US economy not being fully realized. Retail sector, commercial real estate, corporate junk bonds, all going to take a bath. Oil down sharply hurts energy sector.

I think the market makers are still unloading their long positive positions from months ago when the market was in a historic bull run. Once they've unloaded those positions on retail investors, this market is going to plunge in a bad way.

You guys are focusing on the wrong thing.

The only thing that will save us from climate change is 50% of the world's population dying off. This pandemic is what's going to save the world.
That will so obviously only be a temporary relief if human traditions and behaviours don’t change permanently.

I've read people saying you can get it again. They're always very snooty about pointing this fact out which makes me really believe they know what they're talking about

I've heard the same, but as this article points out that seems to be rare and there are potential explanations for it: They survived the coronavirus. Then they tested positive again. Why?

I would think it's safe to assume if you get it you would be safe from reinfection for at least a certain period of time.

So the auto manufacturers are doing shutdowns now.

Though Toyota here is doing a bean counter decision and not a socially responsible one in that it's a two day shutdown, on Monday and Tuesday.

Basically their supply chain is screwed (quarter of the parts from Japan) and no one is buying cars... So they'd either be idling people in the plant or creating inventory which goes against JIT principles.

Don’t Panic: The comprehensive Ars Technica guide to the coronavirus [Updated 3/18]

It would seem that the test is just picking up remnants of the old infection, no reliable indication yet that it's a return.

Yeah, if my scepticism of Facebook Experts wasn't evident, I'm stating it openly now :)

A close second on my pet peeve list are the Facebook Snitches - people who passed by a park and are shocked and appalled to see there were actually people in it! Yes, something like people having drinks together in a park is not ideal at a time of quarantine, though technically it is safer than if they were doing it more secretively indoors somewhere. People just spending time outdoors in the fresh air and not having prolonged interaction with other people is completely healthy though.
