Robert Baillargeon is just fine. He missed most of the first half of the season at Boston University with mono. He's nowhere near bust stage as a prospect - very skilled playmaker.

The baratheon title was on purpose

Yeah of course they bust all the time, but not 2 years after being drafted! We should at least have to wait 1-2 more years before they flame out in the AHL, not during juniors or college.

Yeah, agreed that you can't judge him based on his season so far due to illness. Still, I never really saw him as much more than a boom-or-bust lotto ticket in a bad draft.

He's definitely got NHL upside, but he's an ultra-long-term prospect, lots can happen between now and when he might be ready, and we're not going to see him against pros for another two years... so it's hard to say he's anything special yet.

Sneaky pick for a 5th rounder in a bad draft, though. I definitely approve of these kinds of late-round picks as a general draft strategy.

While we're on the topic of the 2012 draft, am I the only one who has lost faith in Driedger already?

I know goalies develop slowly, but he's putting up brutal numbers in a terrible league. I get that Evansville isn't a good team, but a .891 Sv% in a league like the ECHL is so bad that it kind of defies explanation.

I think it's safe to say hes a bust unless he manages to improve by a large margin. I'm not sure what goalie usually put up in the ECHL or whats a good save percentage for an ECHL goalie.

I think the Driedger people need to wait before writing him off. He is third in shots against and saves in the league. From what I've read he's left out to dry most nights.

If he looked like a prospect last year than he very likely still is one.

Quick had pedestrian numbers in the ECHL too. Really not sure how much you can make of one season as a prospect.

3rd-7th rounders bust all the time.

We hit on Ceci, IMO. I'm not too impressed with the 2012 draft class as a whole to be honest... after pick #20 or so, the whole class isn't terribly impressive. I wasn't keen on it in 2012, and early 2015 returns sort of justify that.

I think there might be a few late bloomers in the 2nd round (for instance, I still like guys like Pontus Aberg, assuming they're given the right opportunity), and it's too soon to say for sure, but it looks like it'll rank league-wide as a below-average year for sure.

Totally agree, this draft was nothing special. Sens had possibly very decent results considering the overall quality of the draft.

Drafting Ceci at 15th : can't ask for more. Already a top-4 D-man at 20 years old, kind of rare. We have not seen the finished product, far from it.

Wikstrand at 196th : potential to be a solid all-around D-man. Already a steal for the prospect he is

Driedger at 76th : slow start to his pro career, but he's a goalie, you take your time with them... could pan out as a solid back-up

Baillargeon at 136th : slow start to his sophomore college season, but he had the mono, kinda hard to recover from. I stand by my prediction that this guy will breakout as a good prospect. No idea if he will make it to the NHL as he is a long-term project and is still in the early stages.

Brassard, Boyle and Maidens as busts yes, but in Maidens' case it was well worth the risk with a 3rd rounder

Which only applies to Tim Boyle then...

A season? Make it 25 games...

SMALL SAMPLE SIZE.

Right, so Driedger's 29 games isn't a small sample? Point is that we can't come to any conclusion from Driedger's ECHL numbers.

TSN rated the NHL affilated prospects.

Sens have no prospects in the top 30. According to them, our best prospects are Paul, Claesson, and Pumpel.

I'd agree. Most the players listed have more skill and are better bets to be better then Paul, Puempel and Claesson. Englund and Wikstrand both are underrated prospects though. I wouldnt be surprised to see them becoming solid nhlers. Then we have Lindberg, Dzingle and Prince plus a few other guy that have top 6 talent but shouldnt be considered blue chippers like most the guys in the top 30.

Some scout listed his top 50 prospect, and sens were one of the tow teams that don't have any players included.

Either some of our players are slightly underrated or very overrated by us.

I don't think that is unreasonable. The Sens didn't have a first this year, they tend to draft around 15, and their top prospects are in the NHL.

Graduated to the NHL this year: Lazar, Ceci, Hoffman, Stone, Boroweicki. How many teams have that many? (Ceci might have been last year I suppose)

I'm adding to your argument... Hard to make a lot of conclusions with one season, even harder with just 25 games...

EDIT : And putting emphasis on the term "small sample size". I know you use it a lot and I used to as well.

We also had an abnormal bust of almost all are picks quickly in 2012. Players that should be establishing themselves at lower levels. This years class for us also seems pretty weak to me but its very early. i dont know the list but it does seem surprising to me Puempel coming off a 30 goal rookie ahl season wouldnt make the list. I look at teams like Minnesota and Colorado and im not sure i'd trade placed with them if they have players on the list. They basically have Dumba, Tuch and Birgas and then no players in their systems

If I'm being honest, I'll admit that I've never really ever been a fan of Dreidger in the first place. Never thought he was anything more than a decent junior goalie, never seen anything that warranted him ever being considered a top-10 prospect.

But of course, goalies are classic late-bloomers, so I suppose it'll have to wait until like 2018 before we can really decide anything... but like I said, I'm not holding my breath.

Da Costa played vs Filatov last night in KHL and scored the only goal in 1-0 game.
I see so much Hoffman in him, would love sens to give him 1 year contract.

Forget about DaCosta. Who's that 170 pound 5'11 kid on a expiring khl contract playing with dacosta and leading the league in scoring?

Assuming you mean Radulov, he can stay in Russia and rot with Filatov and the other lot of Russian rejects.

But seriously, let's get on the phone with SDC's agent yesterday and talk about getting him back to the NHL next year.

Turris-Zibby-SDC-Pageau/Legwand down the middle is friggin sick, and would go a long way towards helping us with a more balanced offense.

Management has to be discussing this, no?

Whoops got confused with Petersberg

Dis guy

Artemi Panarin

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=24664

23 year old 5'11 LW leading the KHL in scoring on a expiring contract but.... plays for St. Petersberg one of the richest team in the KHL. This guy is the golden goose of KHL players imo unless you're betting on Radulov or Kovalchuk. Panarin also has expressed interest in playing in the NHL(a few years ago) and sought to learn the English language.
