He “owned” the team for four months, but when a 5 million dollar payment was due, and couldn’t pay, the deal fell apart. Never really owned it, committed to owning it.

Did you ignore the part in my post where I mentioned that he fired Milbury as the coach??

Yeah, your correct in saying that he never paid for the team. But it kinda sounds like he owned team to me (for four months) considering he was making hockey operations decisions, like firing the coach lol. Who cares if he paid or not, he was able make whatever decisions he wanted to with an NHL franchise for 4 months. Thats bonkers.

Not sure what your point is anyways

Point was he never owned the team, he didn’t make any payments, just a commitment. That was the point.

Bill Simmons had Matt Ishbia on his podcast today, the new owner of the Phoenix Suns. Great interview and he went into some detail about how the process of buying a pro sports franchise works.

Mentioned how you don't just submit a bid when a team goes up for sale and hope to have the highest number. If that's what you're doing, you're unlikely to be successful. Said he spent years fostering relationships with Adam Silver, other owners, league executives and even notable players. Getting to know them and making sure they knew him. So that when an opportunity did arise, he was ready and had support.

I'd imagine it's similar in the NHL. Lends credence to the rumor that Bettman is really trying to merge the Remington and Andlauer bids. Andlauer is someone the league knows very well and I'd imagine has a preference for.

The ideal group really is:

• Andlauer: Chairman, oversees the day-to-day and league affairs
• Reynolds: Focuses on building the brand and storytelling
• Remington Group: Builds the arena and re-develops CTC site
• Jeff York + local investors: Contribute $100-150M so the league can hit their $1B number
Exactly. Just look at Jim Balsillie.

Totally laughable at this point, just superficial and tone deaf… lol

He refers to himself in the third person, and everything he says revolves around how much his presence will be great for Ottawa (6 times).

I‘m not sure he understands that the fans want a new arena and their hockey team to be stable, not a couple visits from
Snoop Dogg to ease the pain.

GARRIOCH: There's lots of racetrack left before the Ottawa Senators are sold

We’re basically told who everyone’s partners are but Neko Sparks’ group seems to be still looking for “local investors” 10 days before the final bid deadline. Unless those rumoured billionaire UK investors are backing the bid or we’re going to hear more celebrities as part of the group, I don’t know how he’s going to submit a serious bid in 10 days.

Either way, it’s funny to see the Sens get so much coverage in the States, more than current playoff teams.

It could be the feedback they got in initial stages was there wasn't enough local/Canadian ties, otherwise why limit your search for more last minute investors to Canadian investors only?

The date in the article for final bid submission was May 15th. I wonder how much longer this will take? Would imagine there's a lot of detail to sort through and lots that needs to get done, especially to get the final agreement signed off & completed.

It sounds like we should hear about the selected bid shortly after the May 15th, but the closing process will take a couple months more.

At this point, we're probably looking at new ownership officially taking over in July/August.

So Pierre gets the draft and free-agency.

I would assume that by early June we should know who the new owner/winning bid will be. Hopefully

For the love of christ, I hope this bidding process doesn't get extended beyond the 10 days. This has gone long enough man. I am so tired of hearing about it, and just want to know who the owner is just so we can move on how the franchise is gonna move forward.

How come the sale of the Penguins or the Predators wasn't this played out and public as well?

I stole this from an reddit comment, but the "six times and ten if we make the playoffs" sounds a lot like a contract to show up once a month during the season and then stepping up the frequency if the sens make the playoffs.

Tell ya what. we will have Andlauer or RR or whoever, pay your appearance fee and make the whole thing so much cleaner.

Neither the Penguins or Predators have an sense of drama.

Does anyone think it's possible the league forgives the team for their current buyout and retained salaries? I hope the new owner asks for it considering they are likely paying 1B+. It would hurt to have so many cap issues in their first year. I also get the feeling that the team is shopping with money they don't currently have with rumors of them scouting Dumba etc.

No chance, that's more than an ownership issue. It's a competitive balance issue. Won't happen.

I was thinking that but with the Sens sales price that should be a boost for team values overall, so they may be ok with it seeing as it's mainly a 1 year 5M 'boost' for the Sens, outside of White's buyout which is the only one past next year. The board would have to approve it during their meeting but I hope the new owner at least asks the question.

I really doubt they'd do something like that. That opens a Pandora's' box to really disrupt the integrity of the league.

Then again, different expansion rules for different expansion eras, game management, different entry draft lotto rules, and shoving sports gambling down our throats doesn't exactly help matters, either.

This is turning into a circus.

Personally, I'm really starting to get wary regarding these "celebrity" owners. I want really good business people who know how to run a successful pro sports franchise. This is NHL hockey, not Celebrity Apprentice.

Waiting for Elon Musk to join the fray any day now to drop the sink on Pierre’s desk at the ctc. “Let that hot water finally sink in.” Got to be a Beaverton article forthcoming.
