You don't have to be hands on to give a little perfunctory lip service to the team and market you're trying to buy into.

As I said yesterday in one of these threads, the Remington/Reynolds group is making an effort to ingratiate itself to the community. The Neko Sparks group is not - it comes across as the team just being a means to an end.
We'll be able to spend to the cap + snoop and his co-owners will be building our fanbase both home and away. That alone satisfies me. I don't need Ryan Reynolds community charity events.

No, that would not be cool. I want nothing to do with Lebron or the lakers!

I would really like the Ottawa senators to be the focal point of the purchase group, not just a platform to launch other stuff from.
Different strokes for different folks then I guess. I'd love to see it. Lebron is the King and go Lakers!

Will they? Nothing we've seen from the group gives any indication that they actually care about the Senators. Rather, much of the talk has been about what sports ownership can do for them and less about what they can do for us.

And if the team doesn't find sufficient financial success, can we trust their commitment to this market?

Sorry to break it to you buddy but Reynolds doesn’t care at all about Ottawa. This is a major real estate play.

If either group is going to be signing big time players and staying out of hockey ops it’s going to be a big W.

Snoop getting the NHL and the Ottawa Senators and minor hockey for American youth on ESPN is a major boon for the NHL, and no doubt it get's Bettman's attention.

It doesn't compare to the global market Reynolds has tapped into for the little Wrexham soccer club. I still prefer Reynods at this point, and it's not about being a fanboy or about community charity.

I expect Remington and Reynolds to have a far greater commitment to the success of the Ottawa market than a man who may not have existed before 2022 and his mystery partners.

Sorry to break it to you buddy but the ottawa senators aren’t a special sports team. Just get me an owner who is signing the cheques and isn’t broke.

And if all else fails, there's always Kickstarter:

But in all seriousness, this is one of the concerns people have about Sparks. There's so much we don't know about him and his bid, because unlike the other major bidders, the public face of the Sparks group (at least until yesterday) is pretty much an unknown commodity.

Something even better is in the works. Sparks will pay players with Niros tokens, a deflationary digital currency he created which not only acts as store of value but has unlimited upside!

Think of the free-agents we'll be able to bring in.

That's highly unlikely. He does own an Airbnb in Cartagena though. And you can rent it if you subscribe to his "Prive 23 luxury members club". Not only will you get a vacation experience with amazing views, you'll get access to "wealth creation via connections". Only $7995 per year. Maybe that's where the cash is coming from.

That’s the report

By Brent Wallace? In a comment on his podcast? When he mentioned that maybe Dwayne Johnson was involved too, which no one's heard anything about since? No one credible has reported anything about who these backers are.

Sparks has zero public ties to the Reuben family or any of their business interests in the UK. It's not a real thing.

But sure, they backed him and let him put up this doozy of a site: Home.

If anyone sent you a link to purchase something via that website, would you feel comfortable entering your credit card info?

This is a person who seems to be shilling scams under to guise of "elevating underrepresented groups and PoC", knowing that much of the media will be hesitant to criticize endeavours that on the surface, seem good.

"Our primary focus with Niros X is to ensure that Small, POC, and disadvantaged businesses have access to the financial resources and information to participate in this historical shift. We provide the tools, and the access, for these companies to have the same access and opportunities as the well-funded “Big Guys”. "

Using that messaging to sell a crypto token he created that has zero value is terrible. Worse, on other pages on that site, he calls his token "safe with unlimited upside". A predatory scam.

That is some word salad.
Also they should inject some Grammerly AI into their portfolio and fix that one long run on sentence that seems to be produced by a comma addicted AI tool.

…and for that reason, I’m out.

To have made it this far in the process, you'd have to think the NHL and the bankers are convinced that this is a legitimate bid with real backing. Or at least legitimate enough that keeping them involved serves their interests (i.e. to be another bidder that other groups have to take seriously and bid against).

This is why I think Mendes is failing (and I only single him out because he is serving as their mouthpiece). We have this bid that doesn't make any sense on the surface, and yet it's being taken seriously. There's a disconnect there. There is a story there that a serious reporter could dig into and try to explain.
