maybe, but that would be a lie. They want the most money - unless that the legacy I suppose.

I think there are a couple of factors, and the Melnyks, GSP, and Bettman all weight these factors differently.

- most money
- good NHL team steward
- good business partner (with the Melnyks)
- works well with the NHL and BoG

It's really starting to feel like someone is really trying to keep Sparks in the bidding process. It's obvious they really don't have the capital to run this team (you know, the new owners still need some money left over after buying the team to keep the lights on).

I'm not sure what the bank or whoever is running this auction is thinking. Yes, you want to cash out and get as much as you can, but you still have to make sure the team is in good hands afterwards.

This is the bank that EM used to buy the team right? It all makes sense then. Has to pass the nhl bog anyway too.

So is it possible that maybe Steve A made the highest bid, Melnyk’s daughters want the Sparks group, and the NHL would prefer Andlauer/Kimel, either alone or as a merger?

I would guess Andlauer/Kimel as a partnership or Steve A would be what the NHL would prefer. Then again, that also means selling part of the Canadiens if Andauler/Kimel end up winning.

the address he uses is for LA Castles Studio. It apparently specializes in game shows but can do other types of productions.

that's the interesting part. 1,200/mth for an office on a month to month basis with shared amenities. That makes sense if you want to be nearby while in production. A little odd imo., but i've heard crazier things.

I would absolutly love any context to this photo. Not even hating. What rando was recognizing, let alone asking for a photo with 'Neko Sparks' at any point this season?

Hands look off.

ha ha. and why does Neko happen to have that picture. Like, maybe that guy is famous and Neko wanted the cred.

I guess my point was, "what is the melnyk legacy" because it certainly hasn't been something to be

If you look closely, they are separated by a red tape/velvet rope - Neko standing on the inside of it. Can anyone pinpoint the area in the CTC this picture would have taken place? Looks foreign to me.

That could certainly be true.
All we know is what's reported and Bruce tells us that Sparks bid around $950m, but didn't really have the money lined up. We are also told that Steve A bid the $1b.

I was thinking the other day as to why Andlauer, for example, would want to give up control, but then remembered that Andlauer had originally teamed up with Tullio, so they aren't against the concept at least. The only numbers I recall being reported are somebody at 850, Sparks at 950 and Steve A at 1b. that means one of Andlauer/kimel bid 850, so they would have to be willing to move up their valuation (or take less % which amounts to the same thing for them) in order to get past Steve A.

This way, the NHL, via gsp because you know, we can't influence, would tell the Melnyks 'ya, we love sparks too, but an actual 1.1b or a not funded 950m."

Something like that.

People really still claiming Ian "Literally travelled to Wrexham when Remmington/Reynolds was still in the hunt" Mendes is carrying water for Neko Sparks, huh?

I'll start with I don't think Ian is carrying water for Sparks. For instance, he has said many times that their bid appears "problematic".

To the "...travelled to Wrexham..." to which you refer, I think this proves the broader point that it does indeed seem possible to do a backgrounder on a high profile bidder.

For months people have been yacking back and forth about Neko and from the media, I don't think we know any more now then we did in December - which is adjacent to zero. How is this possible? I didn't know a thing about Steve A, or that he even existed, and now I know that he hangs with annoying commentators, made a strong shot at an NFL team, and according to those who know him (oh, look, a backgrounder), probably made the $1b bully bid.

Dubas at the helm with Alfie and Spezza in the mix in Hockey Ops or supporting the GM makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, but I feel like the timing required to close the deal is going to prevent this from happening.

Identifying the preferred bidder is the first step hopefully happening soon, but closing the deal will take a lot longer. Can't see how that timing will work to scoop Dubas.
“Big picture, Dubas took over a Leafs team five years ago that had Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, Morgan Rielly, Nazem Kadri, Zach Hyman, Connor Brown and Freddie Andersen. Did that roster get better five years later?
Dubas got little for Kadri and Brown, and lost Hyman and Andersen to free agency. The big signing, John Tavares, then strangled the Leafs from a payroll perspective, not to mention the captain was slowing down in a league that is speeding up.”

I give him credit for buying and keeping the team in Ottawa. He said some things that should perhaps not have been said, and he did not always spend to put the best possible team on the ice.

I don't care if his daughters retain part ownership of the team; I just want an owner that has the finances to both own and operate the team by putting the best possible team on the ice, not a team of low salaried players with limited declining skills.

Sounds like there could be a significant development we will hear about tomorrow.

Don’t think it’s “done” but Monday is looking good for news.
Be surprised if anything came out tomorrow, with being a US holiday.

It wouldn't be unusual for work on a deal like this to continue through a holiday weekend when it's at a critical stage. The lawyers and bankers certainly aren't pens down on Friday at 5pm.

I doubt there will be an official announcements on a US holiday Monday, but news of major developments could definitely leak out.

I mean, do we really know much more about Andlauer, Apostolopoulos, and the Kimels than we do about Sparks? I don't see any reporter digging through their books or trying to track down all of their associates or Google-mapping their listed properties - probably because their bids carry an air of legitimacy that absolves that level of scrutiny.

Neko Sparks is the wildcard that everyone wants to know about, yet by getting close and reporting on the bid, Mendes gets crapped on and accused of carrying water, which I think is a bit absurd. It basically shows that people really want details on the Sparks bid solely because they want him to be exposed as a sham. People want his bid to be exposed, but simultaneously deride any reporting on it that doesn't suit that purpose.

Like, what's Mendes supposed to do here? Not report on people attaching themselves to Sparks bid? Not take interviews with those investors as they arise? Would people rather he just took the Garrioch route and stick to "Nothing happening yet; maybe soon?" tweets?
