This is becoming a joke.

Who is even managing this nonsense and allowing it to be this delayed? Wasn't there a 1 bil bid? What's the problem here now? Was it the integrity of that 1 bil bid group? Surely not as bad as the gong show Neko Sparks' group is portraying.

“Final” bid was BS lol. The wrong dude bid $1B so now they are taking their time trying to get the club members to win.

Does anyone here have the gravitas or impression skills to approach the Sparks group as a local multimillionaire with an offer to join their bid and tease out some details about the bidding decision?

Even if one did , there is an NDA, even though there are leaks obviously.

Wonder if Apostolopolous is the only one who actually has the capital to pull off buying the team and building the new arena

I think so. Or the only one crazy enough to spent a billion dollars just for the rights to a medium sized market NHL team.

I still don't see how any team in this league - outside the O6 group - is worth a billion. It doesn't make any sense.

Kinda funny how these things are coming out now which posters here pointed out before and some were laughing that some "amateur sleuths" could know better
funny thing, it wasn't that hard. Go to famous guy twitter to see his legion of...100 followers.
go to corporate website which points out .... nothing
go to Imdb to see his list of producing credits, which is .... thin.
note his consulting fees of ... $65/hr
note his crowdfunding for a few thousand that ... failed.

HFBoards: "guys, we are not dealing with Steven Spielberg here. I wish journalists would follow up"
other people: "u r dumb"
journalists: "not our job and besides, it looks really hard and stuff"

This whole saga showed that Ian Mendes is not the "real journalist" that people always said he was.

Seems like a great guy and can crack out Narcity-esque "Top 10 Senators you may have forgotten about" content with the best of them, but in the way of actual reporting... not so much.

I love the "There are obviously lots of question about this bid, and good ones, so here are 5 fan fiction theories that I came up with about it" angle to the last article. Much easier to do that than to actually, you know, figure out what's really going on.

Both he and Garrioch have been writing the same story over and over again with no new information for 2 months.

If the Sparks bid is smoke and mirrors then the NHL should be mocked endlessly. I had some faith that they and a major investment bank would be able to do basic diligence but apparently not. Incredible.

Honestly I can't even believe that level of incompetence in a major M&A transaction. Either Sparks is legit or the sell side is intentionally keeping him in the race to inflate the price.

It's a real shame that we couldn't just wake up to a press release that a reputable group has bought the team - like when Fenway bought the Penguins.

Instead we have a circus. This group is in, not it isn't. They have a celebrity, maybe two, but wait, not that one. They have money, we think, but might not. Remember that comedian who went viral on YouTube 10 years ago but you haven't heard from since? He's in! Finals bids are due, but these actually might just be opening bids. We'll see depending on who bids what. Remember when Donovan Bailey beat Michael Johnson in the 150M race!? Wait, who is Mike Spezza?

The way this is going down is embarrassing for the league, but par for the course for what we've seen with this franchise over the last several years. Not all that surprising considering Melnyk's "board" is calling the shots in the process and the two primary media "sources" are Garrioch and Mendes.

it is such 'both sidesing'. "people questioning the bid have a point, but so does the bidder".

What's that thing about journalism? If one guy says it's raining and the other says it's sunny, it's not the journalists job to treat them equally. The job is to look out the damn window and check the weather.

The podcast he was on yesterday were he defended not being a Sparks backer (and I don't think he particularly is) was annoying. He, and particularly the host, saying "aren't social media sens fans stupid. why can't they be fair like us?"

We don't want you to be fair - or better put, be fair, but do some digging, and if there is one, pick a side.

I've been thinking about the Apostolopolous bid as well.

He's a very rich dude and according to media info he submitted a clean bid with only his brothers as partners. Just doesn't seem like there's much coverage or talk about him. I get that A list celebrities get a lot of attention & notoriety, but money and stable financial ownership seems like the most vital criteria and yet not a whole lot info circulating about his bid.

In general, I think the process is going on behind closed doors with not much info coming out and lots of speculation from people that most likely have little or no sources.

Even the Commanders sale, which should have been a gong show considering the circumstances, has been more professional than this.

GSP and the NHL look like chumps right now. The sheer amount of time that has elapsed since the final bid deadline is shocking.

At the end of the day there are very few of these assets available so the bidders may have signed up for this BS process knowingly but yeah it would have been swell to just have a business-like transition of power.

I want to go back to the good old days when RR was at the games and ready to buy the team lol.

I think he's legitimately raised a lot of money.

Everything about this guy suggests he's an ambitious and relentless salesman, and of the many ventures he has going, this one has really taken off. His Instagram bio says "This is my journey to the top spot", and I think that probably encapsulates who he is and why he's doing this. After all, he said it.

I don't see any end to his attempts to fundraise, other than prospective investors saying "no" or his current investors getting antsy that he's overpaying and/or diluting their share. What does he care if he overpays by $100M? It's not his money, and he'll probably never be in a position like this again. This is music to the ears of GSP.

Unfortunately, if he somehow pulls this off, there's nothing in what he's said or his professional history - as far as I can make sense of it - that suggests he would know how to lead a major pro sports franchise. This is really where my concerns lay.
