Why would the NHL care for a group to have more “Canadians”?
Sorry when I use NHL there, I really mean GSP and the Melynk’s. I don’t think its a stretch to say all things being equal, the Melnyk’s would prefer some degree of local ownership, or at least some Canadians

Making hundreds of millions of dollars from the sale of a pro sports team under the guise of diversity would be peak “white rich girl”.

If they’re passionate about the cause they should follow in the footsteps of Mackenzie Scott (Bezos). Get as much money as you can and then donate that money to organizations that are actually doing the work they claim to support.
They might want to pursue both? They’re in rich-beyond-ever-worrying-about-need territory now. They can afford to indulge in realizing a vision of minority representation in the board room. No charity gives you that outcome in a month.

doesn't matter to them. Even if new owners wanted to relocate the NHL will never allow it. Ottawa isn't Arizona.

The Sparks group has also tried to aggressively solicit partnerships with investors not currently affiliated with any rival bids, with a keen eye toward locking down deals with Canadian partners. In their communication with potential investors, Sparks officials acknowledge they have secured international funds for their bid, but are specifically seeking additional Canadian investors to join their roster.

Again, I dont think the Spark’s group is poorly funded. I think they‘re missing Canadian investors. That’s a big difference to note.
meh, This is all another way of saying they are not well enough funded. I doubt anyone cares about where the money comes from.

They are scrambling, and at this late date, approaching local/Canadian investors is their best chance since they don't have to do a lot of explaining about "what is hockey, and what is an Ottawa Senators, and why do I care"

ha ha. "I sure hope you diversify the this place after giving me a billion. I understand you are having trouble getting the last $150m and we could maybe increase our share from 10 to 20% to lighten the load, but.. ya know"

Good cop, bad cop. The grace is in giving them more time.

This is all b.s. pontification anyway. They’ll announce the sale eventually and all this speculation will rinse away.

Does anyone actually think the Sparks group would get the team if they got last second financing? Just the fact they’re at this stage and have like 6000 investors is a pretty good indication that they’re just being kept around to squeeze more money out of the Kimels and Andlauer.

...getting his message out to all 345 of his followers.

I don't know if anyone has already mentioned this but if you go to the listed website on his Twitter; Home (a mediocre template off one of those pre-made website companies)
and Google maps the location listed as their address, you end up on the backlot of an auto parts store.

The guy is a shyster who has a couple of million because of early investments in cryptocurrency (probably orchestrated a couple pump and dumps). I also speculate that he either has some dirt on these celebs or is their drug supplier.

Quickly going from Welcome to Wrexham to 30 for 30
People keep getting hung up on W2W. Whatever Reynolds may have produced with the Ottawa Senators it was never going to be a carbon copy of his first "sports management" hit. Different market different story.

Top 4 North American sports need a grittier, more 'in your face' tone. Just IMO

I think it was Bruce G who reported that the concept he tossed out to the nhl was "Ottawa against the world" something like that - i figure 'plucky up and coming team playing in the birthplace of the Stanley Cup sandwiched between two storied old franchises"

This is becoming a joke.

Who is even managing this nonsense and allowing it to be this delayed? Wasn't there a 1 bil bid? What's the problem here now? Was it the integrity of that 1 bil bid group? Surely not as bad as the gong show Neko Sparks' group is portraying.

It will be announced once the WCF is resolved but prior to the SCF. The NHL is trying to maximize headlines without taking away from playoff storylines.

Kimels + Desmarais will be the winners, or a part of the winning group.

Different market same story - underdog community of swell people who haven’t always had it easy in sports and life haven’t ever lost the hope that they think things can improve they can win despite the odds and BOOM - the team wins a big game, the groundskeeper cries, the trophy is awarded but the real winners are the community who had belief and each other all along

I’m loading up on Niros for the next time I’m in Ottawa. Will be able to get good rates on the concessions and merch.

Can’t fathom how that bid is still in, there is absolutely, positively, no way the NHL wants this group to be involved.
