This doesn’t feel or seem real - I 100% don’t believe this portion of the statement from the Sparks group , as if an NHL team is a co-op drop off center for NHL ownership and NHL revenue streams.

A source says the Sparks group is so flexible in its approach to buying the team that it will include even more First Nations groups down the road if they would like to be involved in the ownership of the team or other ventures related to the arena or other branch businesses.”

Like you’re profiting millions a season and you’re just going to open that profit up to any First Nations group who has an interest in any revenue stream you have- this is pie in the sky fantasy thinking.

I don’t think the NHL likes Willy nilly ownership - I’m going to go with Andlauer wins the bid and the boring aryan ownership lineage continues

you may want to take a real close look at how many offshore gambling sites are owned and run by native groups.

You may want to examine the control of casinos, pot shops and other institutions in this country.

When it comes to the "entertainment" dollar... The indigenous society is up front.

Niko is far smarter than you think..... Plus add to it the Woke Mob times we live in... Let's see some politician say no to an Indigenous group request.. Their ass would be handed to them...

Let's see The Neek waltz into town with some Natives and have a photo opp with Justine, or the Mayor and then have those two say no to something. Ohh yea elections are every 4 years...

Honestly hoping the Kimmels take this one.

Weeknd is a bigger name than Reynolds for that international exposure. Obviously he has never had a TV series or any experience with running a sports franchise. However being the Weeknd fan that I am I know he is a try hard at every facette of his professional life, and he wont let the sens be a side gig to him.

Gonna be honest I still don't understand wtf Reynolds group was talking about when they said that they felt like they were "bidding against themselves"....?

Like if there are 3 other binding bids going in today, is that statement not objectively false? Lol.

Listened to Friedman’s podcast today, he said the league was a bit annoyed that Reynolds partnered with Remington. They wanted him to wait out the winner

If the Sparks bid wins this team is screwed.

Beyond obvious they are bidding for the land and to build a new entertainment center, with the Sens being a consolation prize.

Anyone but him please.

Obvious why he did that.

He wanted to be the face of the franchise and be known as the owner, despite not putting up anywhere close to the 1 billion required to purchase the team.

Probably wasn't going to be an option with any other group.

When Gary was asked about this when Reynolds made his decision it was a very curt reply. I forget the exact words, but is was something like "he's made is decision" and then moved on.

If you are offering $1B, and don't think other bidders can or will go past $850M (hypothetically), the idea is you're no longer bidding "against" them. You're so far ahead that to offer anything more would be bidding against your own previous offer.

Of course, obviously in this case they misplayed their hand. They tried to leverage their position, at least as they saw it, of being far and away the lead bidder.

My guess is that Reynolds wanted to make sure whoever he was partnering prioritized moving downtown, because that's where a lot of the "story" would. History of Ottawa and Lebreton, re-energizing the community, etc.

And it seems like Remington was the group that was focused on doing that above all else.

Andlauer, Kimel, etc are probably happy to wait it out after they get the team and see how things go with the NCC or City. They're in no rush and are okay playing the next 5-10 years in Kanata. So for Reynolds, "we bought a hockey team and ran it pretty much the same way as before just didn't say as many stupid things as the old owner" is not as good a Netflix show.

I agree that this is why Ryan joined early. It just a guess that Gary wanted to play match maker a little later in the process.

I think the moving downtown component is also why Remington claimed they were "bidding against themselves" which may not be quite the correct wording.

They may have gambled and lost here, but I think their point was "why are you talking to these other clowns. We are going to move downtown. It is everything the fans, city, team, and league want. All we want is the ability to work a deal with the NCC/City now. Gives us 30 days and we will make all your dreams come true.

It kind of feels like Andlauer is the frontrunner

this is the vibe I get, and in Ottawa, it's all about the vibes.

You must have some pretty crazy insight into the bidding process to come up with these conclusions!
