I've just started paying attention to that guy in the past week and already he's had typos on two of his roster lineups. I wonder if he's got a fishy alias on here.

There is like this algorithm where people want to highlight and amplify any perceived mistake made by Yakemchuk, even when there is no there there.

Yeah, he literally poked it to Mac, who tossed it to Grieg.

Probably could have put some mustard on it to get it out, but laying the blame on Yak is strange there, unless he meant a failed clearance before the video started (never watched the game)

Seems to be a young writer who has just began, that has ties to Mendes and Scanlon, probably just getting his feet under him, good on him.

did not see it. One Sens reporter tweeted out the goals.. I just relayed them for an update. He is not negative on anyone. The sequence we see in the short replay posted by Rafi after I relayed these I would not characterize as a failed clear and I do not know if that was the reference or something before that. Nice goal by Greig regardless.
He also tweeted his goal but I did not see any others tweeted out from him in the 2nd period. He could have likely just misread what he thought he saw on that one. No one commented on that tweet btw.

Some quick thoughts from the event today. A little repetition from earlier posts as well.

Red carpet stuff:

1. A great atmosphere overall and the players seemed to really embrace it. Everyone had smiles and took their time to sign every autograph and be in every picture. Extremely professional.

I am disappointed about the turnout, though. Maybe 1k people? $5 for kids and $10 for adults for the red carpet, 2 practices and a full scrimmage with all the stars playing. I'm not sure it was marketed well enough.

2. Brady, Sandy, Yak and Kleven all looking massive. Timmy looking thicker as well.

Pinto, Batherson, Greig and Norris looking fit, but lean. Crooker looked very solid.

On ice:

1. Timmy was dancing and was very physical. In battle drills and during the game. He laid a good hit on Crookshank near the benches and Crookshank absorbed it but game him a shot back as Stu was getting off the ice.

I am hoping Timmy continues to evolve his game and my goal of manifesting him tuning up Gallagher is closer.

2. Chabot was flying and silky smooth everywhere.

3. Halliday impressed me yet again. This kid just knows where to be and where to put the puck. I am sensing his shot may be underrated as he is such a pass first guy. Might not be a big transition guy transporting the puck, but he is heady and will make things happen in the offensive zone

4. Cousins is a sh!t even during intrasquad games! LOL. He took an extra poke at the puck after the whistle and Zub shoved him. Cousins looked at him, then poked after the puck again.

5. The Riddler is ready for another step. He is so quick with his reads and hands. Had a great game for team Black, who were outplayed.

6. All the "4th line challengers" showed fine.

I have seen quite a few of these intrasquad games over the years and without a doubt, this one had the most pace and intensity.

It may have slowed down in the latter portion, as I missed the end, but Green seems to have them going early.

Who knows if it means anything, but I came away feeling good.

It seems pretty clear that Boucher's pressure played at least some role in MacEwen turning the puck over. I tried rewatching the clip a few times to really try to break down what happens. You can go to the 2:00:31 mark for that sequence.

Boucher's positional play and his stick checking created additional pressure on the puck carrier to make a quick decision. It actually looks like it might have been Pinto instead of MacEwen. What actually looks like has happened is that Pinto sees Chabot open and rushing up the ice while he is being pressured by Boucher. You can see him glance in the direction of Chabot and try to chip the puck to him.

Boucher's pressure actually played a meaningful role here as Batherson is open on the other wing and there would have been a clear pass to him if Boucher wasn't in the right position, left too big of a gap or wasn't using proper stick checking.

Kleven, barring injury, should be here all year. If he keeps progressing, he has a really bright future.

JBD...he's slipping a bit. Basically just a body to fill in the roster at this point. Has NHL level ability...just no wow factor or noticable attribute that makes him valuable....but a steady player.

Greig...he can pretty much end up anywhere in lines 2-4. All depends on him.

I watched parts of the game online

Chabot looked really good. Pinto and Bath looked like men amongst boys at times.

Greig has an amazing motor just a puck magnet. He's a center. Putting him on wing kills his value. Great handles.

Ostapchuk is so huge and fast, he is going to make the team. He was carrying the puck well and hounding it when he doesn't have it. I think he's a prototype 4th line forward.

I like Halliday alot but he needs pro reps. First line center first pp in Belleville. Him and Ostapchuk are this teams best forward prospects but are at different stages in development and I think will have different roles in the NHL.

I think Halliday has top 6 upside and they really need to develop him properly given how thin the pool is.

Ostapchuk tops out as a very good 3rd liner and that's ok. I'm happy and fine with him playing 4th line this year for his development.

Didn't think any RD men playing for the 3rd spot were any good at all. Really not sure what they do there. They likely need someone else.

Greig is best at center so he probably doesn't play top 6 barring injury.

Kleven will play all 82 games as long as he's healthy. Underrated prospect, very mobile, big and physical underrated first pass.

This could very well be JBD's last one way contract of his career. Defenisve d man that is undersized isn't fast and not big enough to be mean or physical. Terribly selection when they traded down and keandre Miller was selected.

I like it. With the players we have it gives lots of options so we could see lots of juggling at first.
Hopefully Crookshank gets a good shot. Gregor vs crooker is interesting. Could be quite equal and if that’s the case I’d like it to be crooker. Injuries will happen though so I guess they’ll all get time.
I expect Macewen to be improved and useful too.

I feel like Crookshank is going to push his way on this team. He is skilled, tenacious and has hockey sense. He looked good yesterday. Hamonic seems to have picked up a step, so in the event he steps in, whatever ailed him last year seems to make him more serviceable.

I liked Keven yesterday and he is underrated in how well he breaks out.

It looks to me like Yakemchuk just fanned on his pass. He was going to go up the wall, changed his mind and instead looked to go D-to-D, but whiffed. It happens.

I re-watched the intrasquad scrimmage a few times and tried to really isolate my focus on each of the bubble forwards. I focused primarily on evaluating them from a checking role perspective as that seems to be the only opening on the roster.

Based on that criteria I focused heavily on positioning, the quality of pressure they put on puck carriers, there use of an active stick to take away passing and shooting lanes, their board play and their overall mobility.

From what I saw (and recall) the bubble forwards that set themselves apart from the rest of the pack were Stephen Halliday, Jan Jenik, Zack Ostapchuk and Tyler Boucher. I didn't watch Matthew Highmore close enough so he may also be included in the list.

I am not completely convinced of how effective Halliday will be in a checking line role but he did have solid positioning and used an active stick for force turnovers along the boards. He doesn't come across as nearly as physical as the other three and I don't think he is as physically strong on his skates either. He may be less effective in a checking line role than those three but he might be a really good option for a top six opportunity should one be available.

Jenik, Ostapchuk and Boucher seem like a tier above the other bubble forwards for a checking line role. One of the big differentiators is that their skating and overall mobility is a lot better than those they are competing with.

It is still very early in camp but I think they have started the process of separating themselves from the rest.
