What are the Sen’s looking for regarding defence? Jets have a logjam of defenceman on the roster & prospects. Jets needs would be at forward. I suspect the only untouchable player on defence would be Josh M, rest (roster/prospects) might be available for the right deal, Jets just have too many guys capable of playing at the NHL level on defence.

My guess is Ottawa is trying to force formenton on us, but I hope Cheavy is not that stupid...

Winnipeg is firmly in a playoff spot in a very weak division. Why are they trying to trade a defenseman?

Jets have far too many guys who can play in the NHL, top six D plus 2-3 prospects all ready to play on the roster……Chevy needs to trade at least one D guy eventually too much of a logjam

Friedman made no such claim. All he said was that Ottawa looked to be making some cap space room. Friedman said dorion was in wpg but on an unrelated matter. It’s a non story. Mostly Heinola fans thinking he might get a spot on team after a trade. Chevys been pretty clear he’s not trading a dman especially to replace him with an ahler like Heinola. Maybe in the summer.

Heinola for Ridley Greig would be a trade that made sense for both teams, maybe with Jansen Harkins and Jacob Larsson included to balance out the trade.

Ottawa is only looking for RHD.

out of ones potentially available, could only see us interested in DeMelo.

There isn't much that would be off the table for the Sens if the opportunity presented itself to acquire a stable, reliable & cost-controlled RD. DeBrincat, Batherson, Greig, Picks, etc.

The Sens simply aren't going anywhere with the current state of the defence and with knowing how difficult it is to acquire Right shot dmen, I'm willing to overpay.

After losing Kovacecic for nothing, I doubt Chevy does anything. He operates a snails pace at the best of times to deal with roster issues. Heinola will spend the year in the AHL then be traded like Lundkvist in the offseason. Stanley Samberg and Capobianco will rotate around like musical chairs for one spot regardless of how the other guys perform.

It makes SENSe that Ottawa is looking to do something. Lots of hype after a fantastic offseason and a torrid start only to see a major injury seemingly derail their season.

Winnipeg on the other hand did almost nothing in the offseason (although the wholesale coaching change was much needed and overdue). Basically, they rebuilt their 4th line. Now, with Kyle Connor starting slowly and Nick Ehlers injured, they suddenly can defend. Top 3 GAA. 6th on the PK.

The only D they might look to move at the moment are not on the roster and not the type of player Ottawa needs right now.

Well, losing Zub (albeit for much less time) may have been more consequential than Norris in terms of team depth.

Which is why Dorion is looking for defencemen and not centres.

Losing Norris stings a great deal but having Pinto as a back-up option isn't the end of the world.

What would you offer for Pionk, Schmidt or Demelo, out of those pieces you mentioned?

Maybe they can upgrade their roster by trading a current non-roster D they have ? I’ just guessing , I have no clue but I agree that making a trade while winning seems odd
The Sens almost have to add to their D though . They have a very good team but need one or two more solid D . Zub out hurts them .

I don't know enough about Pionk or Schmidt. As a Sens fan, I'm more interested in a stabilizer. Someone who can play some steady minutes, play sound defensively, and can make a simple pass.

Pionk I know has an offensive-side to him. Does he offer that sound defensive play as well? If so, I'd offer a nice amount for him. If he's a liability defensively though I'm not interested.

Schmidt is 31 years old and will be a UFA when he is 33. I wouldn't offer any of the pieces above for Schmidt. If he is aging well and still playing a solid well-rounded game, I'd offer some secondary pieces for Schmidt but none of our marquee pieces.

Demelo is a beauty who has 2 years left on his contract. I wouldn't offer Batherson for him but a discussion can be had for DeBrincat or Greig but there would have to be an add on top of Melo.
