I agree that smack talk can go in the favour of the opposing team. Still, it is not common that Swedish players indulge in it so it is a bit fun as-well.

*cough* Burra before game against Canada (was it last year or 2012?), the crushing Matryoshka doll incident in swedish Sportbladet and Jonathan Hedstrom (2003 or something?) when saying "we're going to crush these "moomins" refering to the finnish team they faced..

I say Russia wins (could be in OT).

I don't think we can beat Russia twice*, and if we play like we did against the Finns, no way Russia gonna fail on chances like they did.

My brain says Canada - Russia in the final

People are saying this every year. But Sweden has beat Russia twice in same tournament several times the latest years. It's very possible it will happen again.

BTW, despite the win Russia wasn't very impressive against USA. They also needs to play better.

To be honest I'd much rather face team USA than Russia. Russia played a really mature brand of hockey and I could see some potential with the Swedish circle and the american D.

We got lucky in our first game against Russia and we must me much more focused on not making so manu mistakes. I hope the players who should play a simple game really plays a simple game.

I'm just glad we got bye Finland and gets to see more hockey from this wonderful tournament.

Sure, still don't contradict my point that it is uncommon.

Against Canada in men's WC 2003 and 2004?, yes ****ing frustrating. Here with this team, no. Already lived up to all expectations and even more.

Before the tournament, sure. But with the performance they've had anything less than a silver medal would be disappointing. With that said, it was evident that Russia had a really good team when they played Sweden. A lackluster game against the Czechs was to be expected. It's Russia after all. I thought they'd beat the US and sure enough. This game is so uncertain that there's no point in guessing.

I'm rooting for a classic showdown of russia/canada.

A classic heavyweight battle equivalent in boxing terms as a buster Douglas vs mike tyson battle.

Or for you star wars fans out there, Luke skywalker vs darth Vader and we all know who the dark side is...

Or rocky vs Ivan drago.

it's all pretty obvious. swedne will beat russia as they usually do and then crumble before the mighty canadians even before the final starts. i mean you can hand over medals already.

Not so fast! We still don't know which of Slovakia - Russia will win bronze. :sarcasm:

That sentiment is really ironic for me. Growing up, Canada was always the boogeyman. Soviets/Russia stood for a beautiful hockey that all Swedes admired while Canada were the goons who'd try to intimidate you and used underhanded tactics to win. And when they didn't win you could be sure that they would start a brawl.

pretty much this is what I want. Canada hasn't seen Russia in the finals for a while. On the other hand though, I rivalry could start brewing with Canada and Sweden because of the Olympics, but hopefully Russia.

2011 Buffalo wasn't it? ( with that amazing 5 goal Russian outburst in 3rd ). Canada hasn't even made it to the final for a while. But I do think they did a much better job of team selection this year, although It might be argued that there's still room for improvement.

They passed on Domi and Nurse last year, and that may well have been a mistake... I know, I know, lack of maturity, blah blah blah ( or was it simply a failure to think outside the old cookie cutter mentality/box? )

Nurse's snub last year seems reminiscent of PK Subban ( who rode the pine at OG ) HC often shies away from Dmen who like to take chances, but who have more offensive upside/ flair, in favor of safer, more vanilla, stay at home guys. That's all well and good, but if those same stay at home guys don't wind up logging big minutes, against the other teams top guns, or don't see much ice, late in the game, when ur trying to protect a lead, it's fair to question their selection (hindsight being 20/20 ). Ditto at least one defensive specialist at centre.

I don't want to bad mouth Gauthier per se. Last couple of games are, far and away, the best I've seen him play in a TC uni. I know he's good on defensive zone faceoffs. He's a big body presence. He's physical and positionally sound. Does stellar work in all three zones. But let's face it, this guy is not fleet of foot ( although his skating does seem better than last year ), plus the guy's got hands of stone. Absolutely no scoring touch, around the net.

You mean to say that we don't have another Big Bodied, physical Center, watching this tourney on TV, who does everything Gauthier does defensively, plus is more fleet of foot, plus can put the biscuit in the basket?

Sorry, I don't buy it!

***

PS: Gauthier's selection , last year, on Big Ice, was a Total Head Scratcher.

PPS: Oh yeah, semi final talk...Sweden Canada Final...that is all

Nemeth was crushing Russian dolls with his stick... It worked out pretty well with a Gold in the end.

But if I should guess the outcome of this tourney
Canada-Russia with the Canadians getting their revenge from last final? between the two.
Sweden probably beats Slovakia for the bronze.

So:
1. Canada
2. Russia
3. Sweden
4. Slovakia

But if Sweden's goalie and D steps up, it probably will be Sweden in the final instead.
Not so sure of that though (didn't impress against the neighbors) and also of beating Russia two times in the same tourney? They know a bit more what to expect this time around. But that goes the other way around as well.

Well i have never get that hype on Canada sure they will go to the final (hope not) but i'm sure sweden or russia can beat em.

Every time is all the same... its time to go out there and be respectless against the canadians hit em hard and i really mean hard should be so there is allmoste "dirty"

Well if Sweden can fix ther defens the russians shouldent be a problem... and if so + the goalie step up im sure Sweden can go all the way

Good luck trying to beat us at our game. Canada has like 4 guys who could easily steamroll any player in this tournament.

Love how slovak's are playing. They had long slump. This is good for their hockey. Rooting for them.

Canada is just so huge troll for swedes its not even funny

Tournament surprises are a double edged sword. On one hand it's great to see the Slovaks have some success but it also makes for a pretty flat semi-final to be brutally honest.

Russia vs Sweden should be good though.
