The Americans are really on their heels now, they look frustrated too. They have the opportunity to swing the momentum back in their favour with that PP.
 
no chance Matthews loses his 1st overall card. What i can say though if he doesn't show up in this third period, it will be interesting to see going forward if he will be that type of player to cave when it matters most.
 
That's Russia under Bragin in a nutshell. Tough, physical, strong on the cycle, competent defense. They weathered some problems in the first period and then capitalized in the second period. Hope much more is left in the tank in the third.
 
What a period by team Russia .

Confident, physical, speedy, skilled.

Now it's very important to kill the penalty at the beginning of the period .
 
On 1st Russian goal a bigtime slash not called.lol 2 teams on ice and they better start calling it that way.
 
The American coach is awful. Why are you forchecking against a highly talented team?

What a stupid tactic. You don't forcheck with 3 men deep against a great puck moving team. Stay back in the zone and wait for them to rush up.

This game is being lost on tactic alone. Horrible, horrible coaching. Russian coach is having a field day right now. The Russians are simply much better at stick handling - don't pressure them by going over agressive. Contain, Contain, Contain. This is Hockey 101

Tbh Im for Russia anyway. I've seen them lose some important games lately and Im glad to see succes from their Juniors. Tomorrow they must lose for us, but its still better to lose in Final than to lose in semi and go to the bronze game, regardless of the ending of that game. How ever the game is not over at all, its very open, US could very will win this, so lets wait and see what happens. One goal lead is paper when there is 20min left if you aren't the better team in 3rd.

The US started to look tired about halfway through the period.

Intense puck pressure can wear you out.

Russians definitely more physical and are very strong on the puck.
 
The US needs to realize they are the less talented team in terms of carrying the puck. They are just going hard on the forcheck for no reason against a team that is baiting them to get in deep so they can move the puck into the zone.
