I know it’s not a great parallel but growing up playing minor hockey the refs at my local arena were awful and often made bad calls against our team. Refs don’t have some nationality bias, there are trained refs and it is their job to call the game. You can shift your tin foil hats all you want.

i can very much still see this coming down to the wire....russia gets a goal in 1st 5 mins, then look out because they can quick strike with the best of them... canada is going to play these as 4 5min periods...

Hockey world will remember this bias refereeing like breaking Kharlamovs ankle with slash or TSN camera for what is wrongly won echoes in eternity
72 refs were actually corrupt, and the camera WAS technically in play and was the same rule for both sides. Hockey world will remember Askarov choking yet again and the Russians taking a well-deserved beatdown.

Similar to Hull's foot in the crease. Bad rule, but you gotta wave it off and fix the rule next year.

Exactly, I’d be pissed if the offside was called against Canada but it was by the letter of the rule the right call. Just sucks, I’ve said it during NHL games as well.

There should be a bit of a buffer type zone allowed for a slightly offside by inches play to stand. The spirit of the rule is to overturn the obvious offside goals, not the ones that are ridiculously close like that. At least in my view.

Don't give a f*** about that call and wish all Russian comrades to do the same. It changes nothing.

The real tragedy is not the upcoming in 20 minutes defeat but the high probability that in 3-4 years 90% of Canadian team will be in NHL and 90% of our team in VHL and some Kazakhstan leagues. The gap in talent is sad and horrifying. And this year roster is considered as above average. Next couple of years are even weaker.

And it's even worse with the fact that it's completely predictable with the SoBs who are in charge of our hockey system (and not only hockey).

Until Rotenbergs are rulling RUssian hockey it will degrade for sure. Worse and worse each year.

Newhook imo. Mcshinpads #3

Newhook #2

Krebs has been pretty good, but Newhook fits this team like a glove.

Jamie Drysdale. Then Pelletier.

I mean, Pelletier might have been the better player per minute.

Krebs.

Pure energy, determination, full effort each shift. Second third efforts even when tired keeping pucks hemmed in.

Great energy player. The modern day checking line player.

Newhook.

Pelletier has been good though as well. McMichael has generally been pretty solid.

Lots of guys have been playing good hockey, seems like the guys have bought in and are playing the right way.

Think I'd lean slightly towards Newhook myself too, seems to create something every time he's on the ice. Krebs or McMichael aren't bad choices either but I think they've had a couple off games.

Goalie losing stick on a regular basis and does not cleanly catch pucks during warmup screams "injury" to me.
That would mean both hands/wrists are injured.

If that is true, then he shouldn't have been given the start.

I doubt Larionov is dumb enough to start a goaltender who is injured on both hands/wristd.

Obviously neutral fans are disappointed because we want so see a real game here, these kinda calls are game killers.

Let's be honest here, refs goes exactly by the book. There's no bending them, if they would've called it as a goal and somehow Russia won this match, oh boy. Rules are rules, even if referee thinks that it's not fair and didn't affect that goal, it's still against the rules. It's not referees fault it's the one's that set this dumb rules.
