Can we get out of D knox contract this coming offseason? That $needs to be spent elsewhere like, yesterday
Reggie Gilliam is making $2.2 million next season.

Siran Neal is making $3.4 million.

Deonte Harty is making $5.3 million.

Nyheim Hines is making $5.5 million.

Mitch Morse is making $11.5 million!!!

Tre White is making $16.6 million.

Cliff notes version: on a roster that's really struggling to score, I think I'd find some other ways to free up money than cutting/moving the guy that contributes 500+ yards of offense and 5+TDs a year for $15 million a season.

I can see it. Cincinnati plays a horizontal timing offense and can keep the ball for long periods of time. Quick 3 and outs, a la the K-Gun no huddle days, could've been bad for the defense.

I don't necessarily agree with it, but I see the logic.

I'll continue to stick to my guns on offensive styles. Taylor is a WC HT guy, and you can see how Burrow just keeps things going with short passes and YAC opportunities. That's the offense Allen needs to be in. Allen is a similar QB to Favre, Young, and Elway, and that was a great offense for them.

Ironically they've really missed Knox in the run game.

More of the cap issues exsist on defense.
I don't think that's ironic at all -- I think it's expected. Knox is our best blocking TE. Kincaid and Morris don't really even come close.

If we want some cap room (all numbers via overthecap.com)

Restructure Josh -- $23.1M saved
Restructure Diggs -- $13.15M saved
Restructure Knox -- $6M saved
Cut Tre, post June 1 -- $10.4M saved
Cut Poyer -- $5.5M saved
Cut Harty -- $4.11M saved
Cut Bates, post June 1 -- $4M saved

Right there is $66M in cap space freed up. Would then give us roughly $36M in cap space to get a better safety or two, bring in a better CB, bring in some DT. Maybe get a veteran WR who will play here on a slight discount (personally, I'd look to the draft here).

Von likely goes away as a post-June 1 cut in 2025.

Related to that, at one point time of possession was something like 19:15 - 5:00, so I can certainly see them concerned that the defense was about to get overrun.

Additionally, it's very difficult to go up tempo/no huddle without a positive play to start things, and the Bills didn't really have many of those in that 1st half funk. In particular on that 3rd possession, you're not going no huddle the play after you throw an incompletion 55 yards downfield. Then the next play was the pick. Their only positive play on the 2nd drive was a PI, which is also difficult to go off tempo off of.

I know injuries have played a part. They have played better the last few weeks but they can't seem to get any takeaways.

All of those are snaps without Tre White, and 99% of them are without Milano and Jones, who were both hurt early in week 5. Missing a standout at every level of the defense (not to mention guys other than them have also missed time) is a huge deal.

It’s not that surprising. They aren’t generating pressure like they used to and the games have
Been close so they aren’t passing as much. Turnovers are a bit of luck too. The Tampa game was a great example where we deflected a ton of passes and they all dropped harmlessly and Tampa deflected one right into the hands of their DT

And McDermott has never been of that school of thought

He’s from the Andy Reid coaching tree.
Sure but not offensively.

He was a Jimmie Johnson product. 4-3 defense with some blitz packages.

Carolina and Buffalo have never run those offenses am I right? You would know more.

Brady is so much more likeable now he isn't a playing (crying)..
If the plan is to slow it down ,I'm cool with that and win TOP ,but ya gotta punch it in. The Bills were never in control of that game down early, that last drive was way to slow.
To many new guys on D and guys missing, they need to get their shit together because there just isn't time to coast, the AFC is just to loaded.

Jimmie Johnson ran a 4-3 with blitz packages. It was also able to morph to a wide 9 4-3 or 46.

I think McDermott would have easy access to Reid’s coaching tree. He probably knows a lot of OCs with HT backgrounds.

sorry meant 4-3 since it’s what we run.

Would be nice to get someone from Reid’s staff.

Would we trade McDermott for Nagy?

Do we have faith in McDermott to hire a new OC?

a new one would be the fourth in his few years has head coach after Dennison, Daboll, and Dorsey.

I still think we need a new head coach to take that next step. Whoever posted that article about coaches and QBs needing new after 5 years was a really interesting article.

Daboll was a home run.

And you do realize that it can, in fact, get worse with a new head coach, right? Like, a lot worse?

Yardsperpass on Twitter is probably my favorite bills social media poster, usually pretty reasonable etc

he had a brief bit today about how if you’re advocating for the kind statistical assessments of the offense you have to essentially argue that they’ve been supremely unlucky and that things will regress positively. I don’t agree that they will, but in that frame it makes sense that they’re just staying the course

It might get worse but I don’t think it’s crazy to suggest we’ve hit the ceiling of the McDermott regime. Sometimes you have to move on from a guy like Schottenheimer or Fox even if they’re not really *bad coaches*

I’d actually be very interested to see what Beane would pursue now that he’s not part of a package

On defense, they don't really have much of a choice. We quite literally have no other option than to stay the course. Can't make any more trades, and injuries have just completely decimated the group.

Offensively, our only real option right now would be to fire Dorsey and name Joe Brady as interim OC. The dude that lasted ONE season as Carolina's OC. Would be a complete unknown.
