You know, this thing that makes the offence appear to function in a threatening manner, lets not plan to use it this week, we will save it for when we are losing and need some points, yeah, that's how we will prepare because we are offensive geniuses!

The offense seems to move the ball damn near 100 percent of the time they REALLY HAVE TOO. It’s funny how awesome they are when they are up tempo and just spread the offense out and go for it.

And it’s funny how we do not try to emulate it when the offense is sleepwalking throughout the rest of the game

Dorsey going to the Kevin Gilbride OC school of outthinking himself

Or he’s McD’s yes-man and institutes the plodding offense because that’s what he wants

Either way, this shit sucks

Also, that challenge was so so so dumb. It was a completion that was for a few yards and not even enough to get the first down. That was in no way worth risking a timeout.

The fact is was a 50/50 call make sir even more mind boggling. And I rarely bitch about challenges. I think McDermott is actually fine at them.

This one was a really poor decision given the context

The reality is they only had the ball 9 times with an average drive start inside our own 20. It's very difficult to move the ball the entire field consistently in this league, especially this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if they graded out average or even slightly better than that today.

Is just that the defense is so hurt and bereft of playmakers now that they can't reasonably ask much more than what they got out of them tonight either. The result is a team with very little margin for error that probably just isn't in the elite tier of teams in this league with their injuries.

And unfortunately they've still got a few of them left on the schedule.

Some stats: they scored 2 points per possession today, starting from their own 20 on average. The league average is 1.88 from the 29. Are they capable of better? Sure. But it's absolutely not a "pathetic" or "embarrassing" performance as some would have you believe. Play a clean game and this comes right to the end.

Also: every other great offense can run the ball with someone other than their QB. There's a reason for that. How are we so arrogant a fan base to think we can go completely without one.

This offense has always worked better when it has some element of a HB run game. It opens so much up down field that short perimeter passes just don't. They stress completely different players and areas on the field.

per McD
Benford tweaked his hamstring in the 3rd quarter(was on the report this week) and did not return
Jackson came out with a undisclosed injury in the 4th and did not return

Hyde is neck and did not return
Bernard is in concussion protocol

Bills would be down to Douglas and Norman this week at corner but do have a extra day with Monday night. And have two healthy linebackers left (Dodson, Williams).

The Bills have not had a interception since Miami Oct1

McD was asked about the pace of the offense this week and said he would have to get a answer for that question. Josh was asked the same question and said it was the game plan.

I have to think the video guy said it was definitely 100% a catch or something. That's the only way you can challenge that there. It's absolutely a bad challenge from a coach who's game management is usually spot on.

Meh. I expected to lose against the Bengals. They regularly beat good teams. They have an Elie QB, elite playmakers, and a stingy defense.

I actually thought the defense did pretty well all things considered. MCD definitely helps in that area. If we lose Hyde, Benford, and Bernard for an extended period of time, then I may begin buying into the theory that New Era was built on a cursed native american burial ground.

The offense is inconsistent. It was inconsistent last year and inconsistent the year before that. Not a good trend. Hopefully, they get hot at the right time.

So, Im not overly upset. I'm just along for the ride at this point.

Also, that second half was something to build on. If Kincaid doesn't fumble there (which I can't fault him for), then I things get interesting.

Explain to him that they’re dropping 7 into coverage and getting there with 4.
They weren’t really putting that much pressure on Allen. No reason to abandon short passing.

Dorsey’d

So, Cincinnati dominated time of possession, and you want them to go faster?

Folks, the offense works when Dorsey dials up short passing and lets receiver run a little bit. That should be the staple. The short passing to Kincaid is about the be unstoppable.

The short passing opens up runs and deeper passes. The TD to Diggs is how it works.

I’ve written this so many times that I should put in my notes app and just paste it in. The scheme stretches the field horizontally and the QB stretches the field vertically.

We watch Burrow and Mahomes operate effective WC HT offenses, and then scream about needing another receiver and Allen being held back. The Chiefs have average receivers, and Burrow happily carves up defenses with short timing passes.

(Hint: it’s the offensive scheme not the players)

We need Bill Walsh

Cannot wait for Beane to re-sign Davis to a 4 year/65 million dollar deal. And I'm going to keep yelling for a Mike Evans move. Guy is an active first ballot HoFer who is still a top 10 WR. You know what you get with Evans? GUARANTEED 1000+ yards and numerous clutch catches and TDs. With Davis you get 1-2 monster games a few mediocre ones and numerous garbage zero production games.

Zero chance they resign Gabe.

The Bills have gotten so close to gelling on offense. They’re just not quite right yet. The biggest issue I have with this team is still the run game, on both sides of the ball. Everybody in that stadium knew Cincy was going to run the ball and Bills couldn’t stop it. When the Bills have been in that situation, they are easily stopped, every time.

They absolutely cannot ... it's time to draft the eventual Diggs replacement and let them play together for a few years. Shakir and Kincaid are core pieces moving forward. It'll be time to cut bait on Davis, Knox and a few of the older pieces on defense. They need to re-tool on the fly here, somewhat like Kansas City did a few years ago and rebuilt their defense with young talent.

After yesterday, I am firmly of the belief that Beane is going to walk away from Davis this off-season the same way he did Tremaine, and rely on some combination of Kincaid and Shakir to replace his production instead.

And I don't think Beane's the only one losing trust in Davis:

Shakir (last three games): 14 targets, 14 receptions, 184 yards
Kincaid (last three games): 26 targets, 23 receptions, 221 yards, 1TD

Davis (last three games): 19 targets, 10 receptions, 93 yards, 1TD

Frustrating because other teams are messing around and are inconsistent and are still winning games...like the Chiefs have 2 offensive TDs in their last 2 games, the Steelers get Mike Tomlin voodooism and are winning, and so on.
and this teams is stuck in a rut and can't consistently win games and are in the hunt.

draft, trade, FA and/or "perhaps" Shorter is developing on the practice squad and could be your big WR target.
