Jackass Devils “fan” in front of me kept on screaming “Holtz you suck” every time he was on the ice and had the puck. I cant imagine actively rooting against a player on my team like that with no merit

I thought Holtz played a responsible game on that 3rd line and made some good passes

They sheltered him defensively. Has some nice entries on the the PP. Fine game from him.

I liked his creativity with the puck offensively, and didn't notice any costly defensive errors. He used his partner well on breakouts.

There were a couple times when he tried to walk the entire Wings team and lost the puck, when the safer play would have been to pass after beating a couple guys.

But he's a Hughes, that kind of comes with the territory.

But he's a Hughes, that kind of comes with the territory.

He'll get better with experience and knowing when to pick his spots instead of going 100% razzle-dazzle.

4 penalty minutes from Hughes. (How many did he have all last year)? Roughing and slashing !! Sheesh Jack, curb your temper.

Good that we won a game we really had to battle to win, right to the last 15 seconds, to the buzzer. It’s the real world now. Haula starting the season with some puck luck, unlike last season.

Good effort by our team. We were rusty and ragged but I loved how we battled. PK looks like it needs some work.

Detroit looks seriously much improved, much more dangerous generating chances, more talented and they should stay on the bubble at least. They must be cursing those two goal posts in period 1 and all the great looks they had they didn’t finish.

That was the first time I have ever seen him do that.

Didn't like the Detroit player teabagging Hughes as that has no place in the game and Haula getting a stick pushed down on his neck when he was on top of the puck.

Otherwise was a pretty good 1st game of the season.

I thought he made a couple pretty poor defensive reads and took some bad angles, but man is he dynamic skating. He's going to put up some points.

Those two flubs (and they were flubs) could've easily been 2 goals and the Devils losing 5-4 or something.

Sometimes a Goaltender needs some assistance from the Hockey Gods and Vitek got it in those situations.
