so was he actually healthy in the last 20 or so games last season and they just shut him down to help the tank?

Arguably the reason the Habs season spiraled a bit in the second half (his absence). In a pivot towards youth, he is a capable leader and brings a level of consistent production when healthy. To resign him the Habs must know something about his ability to recover from his injuries, I feel like he's going to shine. This contract reduces pressure on him and Habs

Not really excited or disappointed in this signing. He'll play well for a while until he gets hurt again. Good player, good guy but he's got a lot of miles on him. Decent short term signing

I'm not entirely sure on that one......Monahan as last year, need to stay healthy and we didn't saw him for the rest of the season, so let's not get ahead of ourselves here
I agree with this... Dvorak isn't out yet... How many games will Monahan play? Wait and see.

But I'm really happy he's back. I love the guy... Good player when healthy and a positive mind in the locker room.

Good signing that can be flipped at the trade deadline for a high draft pick.... Only problem is now we're even in a deeper hole of finding places to trade/dump even more players than before. Especially if we want to have any place for younger players to develop...

Dvorak is not trade yet, but Monohan does not sign here to play wing or 4C. A 1 year deal is for him to rebound and make sure he can extend his career. So he's either 2C or 3C. Based on risk, you can rely on him for 2C so a more reasonable guess here is that they told him he'll be 3C.

That make Dvrorak expendable. so you either package him for PLD or a RD somewhere.

Yayyyyyyy!!!!!!!

I'm so happy!!!!!!

I really wanted this signing for at least 3 reasons:
1) I wanted a better offensive center than Dvo behind Suzuki and Dach to play with all our offensive wingers.
2) Still want that 1st at the TDL.
3) Great to have good vet leader at forward for the young guys.

When he played he was very good for us. He's been a top player in the league. Even if he isn't what he was, his mind is still good for imparting wisdom on our younger players. Even desharnais creditted Gomez with helping him understand the NHL game while Gomez was on a million game goalless streak.
