I'm pretty sure MSL will lose the locker room if he put 2 vets in the pressbox to start the season. Sadly, is going to be Ylonen, Pez and maybe Armia/RHP to start the season.
I don’t think he’ll lose the locker room with Hoffman who by all accounts isn’t the most amazing teammate and Armia who seems like a good guy but sucks unless he scores 3 jn a game once a year. Players know they haven’t performed and understand the consequences of that. If anything it shows the rest of the team that there’s no free passes. That being said I’d at least start the year with them to build value for a trade but that’s just me

Me very happy . I really appreciated his game and his relation with the other players. Good for Slaf.
Absolute dream deal from Hughes

This is just smart business by Hughes, great contract. It's impossible not to like this deal. It literally has no downside, and can only net positive returns. Whether on the ice (when healthy) in the locker room (extremely liked and respected) and at the trade deadline if they decide to go that route.

His health is the contingency, but even then, meh. What can you do? Hughes absolutely still made the right play at the right price. :thumbu:
Cool ! i agree with you !

Seriously, our forward group are so bad. When Hoffman is in the top 3. You know you have a serious problem with our offense, We need a elite offensive forward in this draft.
we need a healthy team.
After 2 seasons of injuries NHL records, i don't care about the bad performances of last seasons, because it doesn't showed what we really had in our hands. I am sure we will make a big step next season

he's had a lot of injuries over his career. it's why the Flames gave up a 1st to get rid of him. If he were healthy, he would've been a good player for them to keep.

As long as he's healthy by the trade deadline..
i remember when Markov or Koivu were alwats injured. We were sure they were finished. Then they played both for a long time, leading the Habs.

Monahan is a good player ; I wish Habs will keep him for a long time. He's the kind of player that could turned into a kind of Perry that will mentoring the young players

Is this what we line up like for g1, barring some trades?

Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield
Monahan-Dach-Anderson
RHP-Dvorak-Gallagher
Armia-Evans-Ylonen
Hoffman

Guhle-Savard
Edmundson-Barron
Harris-Xhekaj
Kovacevic
Missing Matheson
I have to believe that Edmundson, Dvorak, Hoffman and hopefully Armia do NOT start the year in MTL.

Hoffman finished in the top 4 in 2023 in points and top 3 in 2022 in points. If you are going to put him in the press box (With him finishing in the top 5 in points). You also need to put Gally, Anderson and Dvorak in the press box.... I understand for Armia. But putting Hoffman in the press box for Ylonen is kind absurde.

This is also his last year with us. We trade him(50%) for a pick in the draft.

It's not really absurd.. one guy is gone from the team as soon as they can get rid of him, the other needs opportunities and icetime to show what he has before other prospects need their looks as well.

Big evaluation period coming up for Primeau, Ylonen and RHP.. the next wave of prospects are debuting.

I understand your point. But he did end up in the top 5 in points.... If you put him in the press box. You also need to do the same for Dvorak, Gally and Anderson.... At the end of day, Ylonen will get his chance with injury. I just don't see Hoffman in the pressbox this early in the season.

15-25 games in the AHL and the first person for a call up.

That speaks on amount of injuries and how crap depth is to be honest. Hoffman is atrocious

You don't have to do the same for Dvorak, Gally or Anderson since all 3 of them have term remaining. You still manage the people who are going to be part of your team going forward.. ice time and opportunity coming from a pending UFA is easier to communicate.

Hope he has a healthy season, if so, he could easily be a 60-70pt contributor.

Wonder if they'll try him at W if Dvorak stays with the club?

CC - Suzuki - Monahan
Anderson - Dach - RHP
Slaf - Dvorak - Gally
Hoffman - Evans - Armia
Pez/Pitlick

Matheson - Savard
Guhle - Edmundson
Xhekaj - Harris/Barron
Wideman/Kovacevic

~10M$ in cap space (once Price's LTIR is factored in).

i doubt that's how things look come September, but frankly, if we did nothing else, pick our picks, and then leverage the cap space and expendables to add some assets (including an additional '24 first) via trade during the season and let the group finish where they finish (playoff wildcard bubble to lottery pick). i'd be fine.

Hughes is in a good spot to sit an wait for a great deal to emerge.
