He got traded because of Berard and Othmann the way

The return was not good unless we get another Cuylle with the 3rd round pick

I mentioned this before, but it's very bold to assume his value would have stopped going down, let alone gone up.

Everyone has this crazy idea that he's going to be a big deal at the Four Nations. Finland is a much, much, much better team than the Rangers (can't believe that even needs to be said). He's barely going to play.

As I've said, there are arguments in his favor, but it's not an accident or some failure of the Rangers that he's been scratched by every coach. He couldn't point to the middle of the ice on a map. He's not going to make any fans with the coaches in this league. He's not going to last if he doesn't change, and it sure as hell wasn't happening here with a coach he's already clashing with.

The timing of this should have been much sooner, not later.
Its very bold to assume his value would go down as well. I think everyone believed he wouldn't be here before his next contract but trading a perfectly decent camry for a collection of kia soul's isn't the answer.

Fire Drury tonight for anyone at the game...chant it all night

Drury sounds like an absolutely awful person to work for.

Fight fire with fire, I say. Had it too good for too long. This is like a 401k. It might be ugly now but this is for the long term. Drury might look evil now but he's purging this for the kids now and the kids coming. Culture change in any organization is painful.

This goes way beyond player movements if this article is accurate.

Yes usually to change the organizational culture, you make changes within the organization. If my company loses the contract they are currently on, I get replaced by someone the new company trusts, but the position doesn't just go away. Why would the Rangers be any different when they bring in new management?

KAKKO WAS NOT SIGNING HERE LONG TERM WHEN HE IS UFA IN A YEAR.
This was the bottom line. All other thoughts/points are really just noise. He has been complaining for years. He was gone. The only question, would the return be better now or later. That seems self evident.

And, thanks for writing in caps, lol. Maybe the first time in the history of the internet that it actually DID help me “get it”.

Couldnt even Drury get a conditional second? Like if Kakko has 30 points for Seattle for the rest of the year the 3rd bumps to a 2nd?

This return is just horrid.

Will Borgen? He sucks. Hope we can trade him at deadline and get another 3rd or 4th for him

Justin Braun returned a 3 + 5th at the deadline. Ilya Lyubushkin got a 3rd + 6th. Chad Ruewehdl for a 4th down the road (2027).

D-men net good returns at the deadline

Kakko for 3 + 6
Borgen dealt at the deadline for a 3 + 5

(2) 3's + 5 + 6 for Kakko

Here
I'm actually a little surprised how many fans took KK's "side" in all of this. Especially after he spoke up.

I mean we all were disappointed with him not being the player we thought we drafted, but i think a majority of the fans understood what he was, his limitations but also his value and that he has become a solid NHL player. If you look at seasons past, usually these types of players becoming the whipping boy/busts pretty quickly. (Not to say there wasnt some of that talk and rightfully so)

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he was drafted so highly and the team/fans suffered to finally, after all of those years, draft a kid so highly. Seeing how he was jerked around early in his career gave us hope he could offer more. Injuries. Bad luck. Scratches.

With that said I think fans were fine with trading him given his history here - and actually felt for the player, providing him a fresh start - but were also OK holding onto him because he really wasn't the problem! Most knew that come playoff time there would be a need for a bottom six guy with his skillset - whether it be in Ranger blue or elsewhere.

And that value paired with his age was totally mismanaged in this deal. Its almost as if Drury just gave up on the situation and succomed to panic or player request.

So he all of sudden was a softie with Kakko after how he shipped out Goodrow and Trouba the way he did? Pissing the entire core off in the process?

I dont buy it. He just sucks as a GM

Drury has to settle the family business before the team can heal. This was part of it. As was Trouba. More is coming.

The trade in itself are mildly disappointing.

The issue is that the NYR have 99 problems and Kakko was not one of them.
Yeah, he was lacking flash, and did not generate much offence, but this feels like throwing out a sagging couch when the whole house is on fire and are built on quicksand.

They could have kept Kakko trough the season, and even if the value has been lowered it could not been much lower then the UFA to be 6. D, 3 +6 we got. Kept him, Chytil and Cuylle and have atleast 1 line that would outscore the opponent.

Since the summer NYR have waived Goodrow, traded Trouba, signed Igor on a massive deal, and now traded Kakko. All while the biggest earners are playing their worst hockey of their careers.

What is the long time plan?
Is there even a long time plan?

The vets are at war with the front office. Timelines are not working well together. The coach is a non-factor. This season is on its way to the bin, but feels like the whole team is on its way to the dreaded middle. Either first round exists, or picking in the 10 overall range for the next several year.
Drury have moved salary, but I can not see any free agents able to turn this into a contender.

Are they going to go for it the net couple of seasons with this very flawed core?

The fruits of the to short rebuild are soon coming to an end. We got Perreault and a bunch of players that might be bottom half of the rooster in the pipeline. Is the plan to get top 6 forwards and top 4 defenders from free agency? I was not watching during the dark ages, but it feels very similar to how the club operated then.

If kreider is not traded by the start of next season the shit culture will continue.

He is the biggest thing that needs to be purged from this team.

Trade him for anything at this point. He just needs to go.
