Confirmed with Link: [SEA/NYR] Kaapo Kakko for Will Borgen + 3rd + 6th

A lot of people make this argument that if you remove Kakko's 2oa draft pedigree we wouldn't be disappointed with the player he is. But if you remove Kakko's 2oa draft pedigree I don't think people would be so disappointed by this trade. A decent defenseman who can at least skate, a 3rd & 6th is not a terrible return for a guy who's broke 20pts twice in five seasons. Nobody would bat an eye at this trade had he not been taken 2nd overall.

They're pushing my patience. WTF is he thinking? Who is this great defenseman? Never heard of him. So, we get rid of Trouba and replace him with this guy AND lose a great kid that obviously may never become what we thought he would be, but nevertheless. I'd rather have lost Mika, and I'm still a fan of his. Way to go Drury. I will say, at least he sent him to Seattle and not Philly per sé.

Just makes NO sense. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, the NHL in one short year has surpassed our SLOW Rangers that cannot defend to save their asses. Borgen is going to be the savior? Hell,nI wonder if he is even better than Trouba. Jeez, I'm disgusted.

I peeked into HFSEA's trade thread, and it's half the people from here lol

HFSEA thinks he still has a ceiling. We'll see.

The head is relatively new and in a very similar situation to Drury, trying to change the way we've done things and the culture while growing the organization, and she actually seems competent, nice and engaged.

He's 87th percentile for speed metrics & literally has over twice as many speed bursts over 20mph than the average NHL defenseman. He's also big and physical, which fills a need created after the Trouba trade. He is great at zone exits. Fox may well be our only defenseman who is undoubtedly better than him lol

Ed, I beg you - don’t make him your new favorite.

In all seriousness we complain how slow and non-physical our D is as a group and here comes D with these attributes. Can we at least give him a chance, I don’t know half a season is too much to ask before forming an opinion?!?!

Yeah. I didn't feel like getting myself fired today with my hard to control mouth, and in my previous 1 on 1s, I swallowed my tongue and focused on positives.

If you're in the top 5% of the league, you will have blue bars every year. If you're in the bottom 15% of the league, you will have red bars every year. If you are in with the other 80% of the league, your results will likely vary with every year and every situation. Hopefully, Borgen meshes with Miller or Vakanaainan and we get the blue bar version.
