Waived: [SEA] G Philipp Grubauer waived by the Kraken

Demko cooked?
He’ll return to form

He’s been pretty bad. His stance looks weird, and it’s hard to say if it’s because he’s rusty or if he’s had to adjust how he plays due to the injury. I think it’d be pretty dumb to trade him now though when he only has one more year left. Might as well see if he can figure it out after a proper offseason

This is just one of quite a few contracts that fall in that 4-6yrs x $5-6m per year for an iffy not entirely proven goalies out there. Legit there could arguably be 5+ of these guys in the AHL

It’s kind of crazy how many long term risky deals have been signed at such a volatile position.

Ron Francis is getting fired anyways. The Kraken, aside from that weird second season, doomed themselves making poor hires at the outset. They’re going to risk becoming the Blue Jackets, but I think there is urgency in that regard.

Rumor, as per Friedman, has it that there is a disconnect between ownership and GM Francis on the direction of the team and that Francis wanted to hire McLellan for the coach but ownership wanted Bylsma. No idea what happens at the end of this season but I can certainly see Francis getting fired.

I have heard that from him too. Easy to see how he loses a power struggle, he doesn’t hardly ever want to do anything.

The problem isn't that he didn't do anything. But he did hand out a lot of long-term contracts to average players and handicapped the team instead of going for any big fish via trade or UFA.
After being adamant about not taking contracts at the expansion draft.

I am not privy to all the conversations he had with GMs during the expansion draft, but as per him, the teams were better prepared for the expansion draft after the Vegas one, and there were not many good deals to be made. I am pretty sure the teams were better prepared, but Francis seems to be too cautious of a GM to take any risks, and I don't think you can succeed without taking risks.

I agree fully. He was almost inert as Carolina's GM. I never thought he was the right pick for Seattle. An expansion team needs a GM that wheels and deals.

I didn’t realize he’d stolen the goals-saved-below-expected crown away from Georgiev. He must’ve really turned it down a notch the past month.
