As a Kraken fan I’m happy with this. He’s our best goalie.
Now if only Disco Dan and Ron Francis could figure that out.

The bad contract is Grubauers.
I'm somewhat surprised they didn't buy him out this past summer. I've gotta think the playoff berth the year before (which had nothing to do with Grubauer) may have bought him another year. Maybe even particularly because he won a playoff round against the defending cup champions.

I can't see him back next year, unless it's in an LTIR role. Then again, if he has a good season (which I would be convinced is nothing more than an up year/one off renaissance comeback year) maybe they try and get one more year of out of him.

I just don't like risky contracts with a goalie. To a Center, Defenseman etc, I can understand it. I guess my thoughts are getting outdated with Swayman's deal. It's just a massive risk in the headcase category to make.

Not going to lie my stupid ass thought Daccord was the goalie Florida waived and that Seattle claimed him and gave him this contract to really destroy the Islanders stupidity from when they claimed Brian Strait and then gave him a 3 year extension.

The Kraken don't need to buy out Grubauer yet because of Daccord's current contract. Next year though, unless he really shows up this year (like .910 or better) and the Kraken do exceptionally better than expected, Francis would be nuts not to consider the buyout. 10.9 tied up in goalies? NO THANKS.

Canucks trio of goalies combined make about half of Krakens duo 🤣
Let that sink in

This is risky coming off of one big season, with that said 5M is like minimum wage for an average starting goalie.

Daccord is a pending UFA and prior to getting hurt last year was a Vezina candidate. He is also a player who was a late bloomer but improved at every level.

This contract should but the Ullmark one in perspective and help people understand where the market is for goalies.
Daccord qas a Vezina candidate?? Since when?

Vezina candidate is probably strong but he was like 3rd in the NHL in goals saved above expected as late as February of last season and ended the season tied for 3rd in SV% with Swayman. Team success and wins certainly kept him out of the actual Vezina convo but his numbers were very strong. And not in a part time role either - in 50 starts.

People seem to be holding his late development against him but sometimes guy just need a little longer to bake and even more than that - an opportunity. Especially goalies. He’s just as likely if not more so to be another Kuemper - who broke out as an NHL starter in his age 28/29 season and then had a very good run in net as a top tier starter - than he is to be another Cal Petersen. I mean, trust the Sens fans in this thread - they knew he was a very good goalie prospect well before he actually broke out. There was legit heartburn that management left him exposed in the expansion draft, for good reason.

As a Kraken fan, I love this signing. If the naysayers had watched us suffer through Grubauer for three years and counting, they would love it, too.

He finished tied for fourth in save percentage among goalies who played 41 games or more. Only 0.02 behind Demko, who finished second.

Calling him a Vezina contender may not have been factual, because the way voting works, no one is voting for a no name goalie on a non-playoff team outside of their local market, unless they have a historical season. It's fair to say that he was one of the best goalies in the league last year. Top 5 statistical (both traditional and advanced) goalie performance in the league, vs Vezina contender is semantics. Should have been a Vezina contender may have been a better way to word it.

Little bro over here bigchesting about two AHL goalies and the rotting corpse of Thatcher Demko like his team's got something

At least Devils fans had the good sense not to bump their gums when Schmid had a couple good playoff games two years ago. I'm sure Silovs will be different though lmao

Wow dude is taking a beating in this thread

Unpopular opinon--this will be a borderline bargain by 2026. Daccord is for real.
