To be fair he had a real bad rating on the shot share through two periods but fought back to dead even by the end of the game.

Yeah I didn't think EJ had a good game, some iffy moments for sure, but also some ok moments, and some hard to play against defense. I think it's a little exaggerated IMO that he was awful.

Analytics JWK posted earlier didn't look too bad either. Kinda just average.

I'd be ok taking him out or leaving him in one more game.

In fact, I don't know if this is their plan, but I like the idea of playing EJ on the road where the intensity is high with the crowd, and the games will be tougher to defend, then Malinksi at home where they'll be able to play their up tempo system better.

Play to each of their strengths and weaknesses.

Did you see DeBoer in the 1st period after the Johnston penalty? The guy was BARKING at the officials.

We know who DeBoer is. Any time we play them in the playoffs, he makes a comment to the media about officiating and the penalties almost immediately stop being called.

I'd bet the house he does it again.
Which is why I was watching his presser closely. He didn't do it ... not saying he won't, because he likely will, but this time he blamed his own team when talking to the media.

The biggest thing I noticed was EJs inability to make passes. He relied almost entirely on high flips to nobody. In the 2nd it got real bad where he turned it over attempting one and Dallas' 4th line almost scored.

Can't be that careless with pucks.

Drouin - Nelson - Nichushkin line has been hot garbage according to regular season stats, doesn't look like anything has changed.

I don't have time to read through the whole thread, but does anybody have a clip of the hot mic moment from TNT? I was watching Altitude so I missed it.

Yeah I get that. Personally I'm ok with him making the safe play rather than forcing something.

He might be the best in the league at that high flip out without icing, and generally him and Girard have been good at skating/passing the puck out of the zone since they've been re-united.

He hasn't shown it as much lately, but earlier before he got hurt, his outlet passing was actually quite good. Kinda surprised me. Multiple plays where he protected the puck well, spun off contact, then fired a 100 foot pass to someone on the tape to not only get the puck out, but create a rush chance. Hasn't done it lately though.

His skating while defending is the big concern for me.

I don't know if it's his back, or perhaps groin bothering him or what, but you can see it's an issue when he's skating really upright, and not taking long strides.

When he's not skating well, it gets him caught flat footed defending the rush like on a play tonight, or not being confident enough to gap up tight, or too far behind chasing someone on the cycle.

There's a big difference between complaining about legit missed calls/bad calls and legit good calls though.

We whine about non-calls, they cry about calls, it all revolves around their infractions.
Sorry boys, but the amount of complaining on Mansons (legit) penalty shows otherwise lol. All fanbases do it, but it happens here a metric shit-tonne.

On the game itself, I thought it was a good effort overall. Not too concerned how often Makar missed the net but I hope he cleans his dzone play up a bit, I thought he was ok at best there. And Johnson was not good at all, I don’t care what analytics say. He killed way too many plays with poor passes, bad shot selection, and just outright dumping the puck out to the stars so they could reset. I don’t want to punt him to the moon or anything but if he plays like that next game, I think malinski should draw in.

Great game from the keeper, really happy for him.

This line is hot garbage, but I'm not sure how to change it up. You can't break up 29s line, it was absolutely dominant.

I didn’t mind Nelson’s game much at all. There was at least one instance he could’ve initiated a puck battle and veered off instead, didn’t like that but otherwise he generated shots and made simple plays.

I said before I didn’t have many complaints about Avs players but Nuke was awful tonight. Tried way too hard to power through multiple opponents instead of making the smarter play, fumbled pucks on routine plays, and just wasn’t really skating with the authority you expect from him. Sure hope whatever’s bothering him isn’t too serious.

5-1 doesn't exactly tell the full story. The Stars had multiple good looks and without Blackwood it might have been a different game. 4giev would have lost it that's for sure.

Next game is massive. Win and it becomes real damn hard for Dallas to claw their way back.

3.84 xG for them. We had 3.64 xG, but that'd be closer to 2.6 xG without EN attempts. Definitely a competitive game that could have gone either way.

Stole home-ice and give them somehting to solve...... We didnt play the best game, but we played solid and Blackwood hold the fort... Man, it feels so good to finally have a real starter in net. Blackwood AND (!!) Wedgewood together give this team so much confidence.....

So if Dallas speaks about "having played their best in 2 months", and still lost 1-5, i wonder what it will look like if we play our "best".........

And this time there is no Georgiev in net, and the chance that Nuke goes missing for a 3rd time in a row is also slim.....

Not so funny anymore when you find yourself on the other side of the injury-coin this time.

Go for the early kill in this series on monday... Do not let the foot of the gas.

I was cozy in bed and wasn't on here during Lehkonen's goal in the 2nd, but I really need to comment on the broadcast trying to sell that as a "distinct kicking motion". I was just laying there flabbergasted. Dude's getting tackled and the puck happens to come back and deflect off his flailing leg into the net, but to hear Eddie and Boucher you'd think it was Pele out there.
Absolutely bonkers.

Got up for the first time to watch the team this season. Too old and dependent on my sleep to act like I an forty years young. All I can say is, Schwartzwald! What a performance from him. Too early to get over-excited, as this level of play is probably not sustainable. But if this is the real play-off Blackwood, I’d say this team stands a good chance at winning the cup. I’d like that, seeing how the world is otherwise going to the place where people with a certain belief system really do not want to go. Go Avs!
