Nah, how about Buffalo does it againCorrect call - thanks for the thread tho.
Maybe we should rename it to O’Connor crosschecking Benson in the neck off the draw
What kind of weirdo thinks scoring a goal on an injured goalie is nice? Legal sure? But nice? That's messed up. The nice goal was the OT winner by Toews.Nice goal by Benson
Meh, in the name of the rule they technically got it right... It even says in the rulebook that the official "may" stop play. So its basically referees discretion.
Honestly where I take issue with the entire thing is.... Kelly doesn't hit Benson into Wedgewood at all. Benson is the guy who last minute makes a sharp turn to spin around Kelly and basically knocks himself into Wedgewood off of Kelly.
I really think had they taken a longer look at the play when Bednar challenged it, they would have called it back. But they looked at it for literally 10 seconds and went with what they saw on the ice.
Yeah, exactly... Kelly doesn't actually hit Benson. Benson turns around into Kelly and then falls into the net essentially.
Extremely weird play.

Right on. Kelly followed him closely and did not shove him.Meh, in the name of the rule they technically got it right... It even says in the rulebook that the official "may" stop play. So its basically referees discretion.

What does the number of NHL goals I've personally scored have to do with the fact that you think scoring on an injured goalie is a nice goal? How many NHL goals have you scored?
So what I'm gathering, if you're in the offensive zone, knock a defending player into their own goalie so he's injured and score on a wide open net.
It’s so stupid. All NHL needs to do is make a rule where if any player is seriously injured, you blow the whistle no matter what. Just one of the few things that the NHL can’t get it right
I don’t know about that, but definitely should be a whistle if a player is seriously injured. It’s for their safetyWe should blow the whistle when a player breaks his skate blade too

Ask the league, it's already a rule. Discretion of the refs. How do you determine what is serious or not? How do you prevent divers and fakers?

Refs who don't show good discretion shouldn't be refs.Aren't we right back where we started then?
These refs are morons, but lit a fire under the team. Character win here. Benson is a little twerp, why ever draft a midget winger without plus skills.
