Possibly the most underrated trade acquisition of the offseason by any team this year. He's maybe the main catalyst that started the re-tooling that was desperately needed on their D-corps. Not to mention, one more year at a bargain cap rate of $2.75M.

Adjusting for cap inflation, I personally expect a deal of around 4 years/$18-$22 million if he keeps up his play the whole season. I don't think he'll come cheap other than next year, and I'm OK with that. As a comparison, Wisniewski (who is, from what I've heard, less defensively responsible than Sekera has shown for us, and puts up similar point totals) got 6 years/$33M from Columbus as a full free agent.

Fun (albeit a bit frustrating) game to be at. Good solid 3rd period after ending the 2nd so poorly. That 3rd goal was definitely on Khodobin for not covering it. Yes, Komisarek made a bad play to start it, then didn't get back into the play, but it looked to me like he slowed up thinking Khodobin had it. Not saying that slowing up is right, but that's how it looked to me.

Jordan Staal is really fun to watch right now. He thinks the game so well, especially defensively (not only in the Canes zone, but the whole rink).

And Sekera was on another planet today. I don't know if it's just confidence getting higher and higher, but he was a treat to watch today and IMO, the best player on the ice. He looked more like Karlsson than Karlsson did.

We play well against teams that like to play deep. Allows us easy access through the neutral zone, which IMO is our Achilles Heel,

Conversely, teams that win by outworking the opponent are our anathema. Columbus is the definition of that, and they're riding hot. Will be a fun game to watch/be at.

5 minutes into the game he tried to go between Gryba and Methot and just got levelled.

I agree, but it's a bit of a catch22. He's most effective when he is going to the dirty areas and not giving up on the play. Even against Buffalo that happened a couple of times.

Where I think he needs to dial back a bit is trying to go through/around more than 1 guy and holding onto the puck too long as he get's near the end boards. I think he's done that better, but still tries to beat multiple guys (and succeeds on occasion).
