was listening to the chiclets podcast from back when the series was 2-1 and it was interesting to hear them all talking about how well the stars were playing down low. contrast that to what I saw tonight - a team trying to make fancy and/or low-percentage plays off the rush. we fought that tendency a couple of times during the season but have been fairly consistent over the postseason.
imo, we have a better group of forwards to play that style than DAL. if EDM can't match or exceed our effort/success in terms of forechecking and slow our guys down, we're going to hem them in and could play a lot of the SCP downhill like last series. think about how many grade A chances we generated last series as well. slightly better finishing and we could survive losing the special teams battle.
I could image a scenario where they keep us away from our game for enough of 4 games and win the special teams battle by enough to win it. I don't think they'll beat us in a series that isn't impacted by special teams, though.
the other thing I've been thinking about is that I don't think we've seen the best game from the panthers yet. I kept saying in the first series that it didn't feel like playoff hockey. yet we won easily. the Bs series had it's moments but I think this last series saw some periods of dominance. I get the feeling the guys have been trying to manage their energy expenditure so as to be actually at peak in the SCF (rather than at the end of the first round).
