Ok I have had the night to process that now. 2 things first off the reffing has been absolutely atrocious this series. Leon getting hacked and slashed and hooked by the “defensive master” Barkov all throughout game 1 was bad enough. Connor getting hooked 3 times on a breakaway by turtle boy was just stupid in game 2. The 5 minute major on Warren was unjustified and made even worse by the “review”. Bennet targeting the heads of our guys is getting a little tiresome already. That pick over glass call was complete HS. Listening to the radio this morning and had someone defend it saying it’s the place the pick leave your stick not where the initial contact is. Why does it seem every playoffs the “new rules” that nobody has ever heard of keep coming up? In 2022 it was the offside play this time it’s pick over glass.

In saying all that we need to be much better it was always going to be the Oilers Vs the Panthers and the league and we knew this coming in. Time to dig deep we have proved all year that when the chips are down we rise to the occasion time to do it again. Oh and if Leon gets suspended it’s more obvious bias.
My complete sentiments. I was expecting the refs/league to favor their sunbelt city, so no surprise. They make it so obvious, so the game gets hard to watch, knowing the outcome in advance. We gotta play that much better just to overcome the bs they already have stacked against us

Oilers are in the cup final . Some posts here seem like this is a last place team lol. Some of u seek help

Yep. It is extremely hard to get here.

Which makes this run enjoyable yet extremely depressing, because if they can't close it out, it is unlikely they make it back, especially with the contract situation unfolding.

All we can do now is hope for a miracle. Statistically, they've got a 9% chance of winning this series. Still possible. Need both at home though, no question.

The 06' team pushed Carolina to 7 games after going down 0-2 and losing 3 of 4. You somehow claw your way to game 7 here and with Draisaitl/McDavid, I think you've got an edge.

Can't win a cup with a sub .900 goalie, not happening.
Pretty well. Skinner just isn't very good, but in his defence he was not suppose to have been our #!, our $25million #1 is in the minors, this is all on our GM's head

Once again all the worst traits of this team reared their ugly head. I'll just list them as a form of therapy.

- 29, 93 and 97 categorically refusing to shoot the puck under any circumstance to start the game (unless it was the back door one timer), and only became slightly, somewhat more willing later on. 97 needs to start simplifying or he's going to dipsy doodle this team to getting swept.

- 29 not moving his feet the entire night and repeatedly turning it over

- McLeod repetitively turning it over with soft touch passes out of the zone (I lay more blame on him than I do Bouchard for the second goal)

- The "no hands line" of Kane and Foegele individually doing what they can to blow the game up

- Straight up losing the free man in front of the net over and over and over again. Rodriguez has basically scored the exact same goal 3 times now. D man beat to the puck low -> absolutely nobody watching the trailer -> puck goes to trailer -> in. Panthers aren't producing a hell of a lot either, but we're giving them freebies on this look.

- Skinner clinically unable to make a timely save

- That sack of f***ing shit Chris Rooney blowing up yet another game, and the NHL allowing him to go this far despite it being obvious to anyone with eyes he sucks and loses control of games

- Still feet from defensemen on breakouts, the whole team trying to pass it through the neutral zone despite it being quite obviously clogged up

- Complete inability to win a key face-off at any point in the game across the board

Here are the adjustments I would be looking to make for Game 3:

- Skating before passing the puck is a requirement on our half of the ice for all players

- Skating the puck out of the zone needs to be option A - our passing as a group is f***ing horrendous and the Panthers are cutting off all lanes. Need to simplify our possessions and skate it to the right places.

- Shoot the f***ing puck. The Panthers are good at cutting passing lanes, looking off a clean shot to try and send it through 4 players doesn't work against the Sharks and it certainly won't work against the Panthers.

I'm running with this:

McLeod - McDavid - Hyman
RNH - Draisaitl - Holloway
Janmark - Ryan - Brown
Foegele - Carrick - Gagner (I'd look to heavily manage this line's ice)

McLeod needs to be drug along on a line, he can't play C at this level and not be a mess. I'd probably scratch him if we had another player to put in that didn't suck more than he does. Gagner is slow, but he can at least make a play with the puck off the wall which is a bridge too far for about half our roster at the moment. Kane can't play anymore, he's a liability.

Oilers have scored 1 goal in 2 games.....3 goals in past 3 games
offense drying up is the bigger concern
the missed nets and posts indicate they are thinking too much about the goalie they are facing. need to bombard him with shots hes not unbeatable.

Ok? Dubas was standing firm on the ask to prove a point to the league. "Negotiating skills" change nothing there.
Dubas wanted the 2nd because he was still upset about how much he had to pay in the past for a team to "help them". It's as simple as that. I haven't liked Holland but somehow pointing to that as a failure on his point is just looking for things to nitpick for the sake of it.
Holland needs to actually have a negotiating win once in a while. The guy stopped a day before deadline was over. He's the highest paid gm in the league. Not the lowest paid.

The whole "he's saying no" nonsense doesn't work. Oddly enough since it's Ken Holland you turn that second into a 3rd and gladly do the deal. Ken Holland sucks at drafting. You're giving away a nothing asset you'll never be able to use.

Frustrating when the team doesn't show up for large portions of a Cup Final game.

I have no issue if the team gets beat by a better team when they're playing well, last night was something very different.

and stop hammering slap shots into the crowds and pick lesser velocity shots and get them through. weve got like 4 rebounds in 2 games, thats gross considering 70%+ goals come from rebounds.

Did I say anything about Petrov being another Datsyuk? My point was Dubas wouldn’t budge on the second round pick. He tried to squeeze Ken and he said FO. Why is this something that should be held against him exactly?
You're acting like Petrov is some sort of coup. What would be much better is Hyman signed for a low aav.

Anyone with basic logic can understand you take the sure thing in Hyman. Not Holland hoping to roll the dice on a 2nd round or 6th round or whatever. Things don't materialize with him at all.

You're right that some of the overreactions are over the top but that was an ugly, non-competitive game so it's easy to understand why some are down.

On top of it, Draisaitl is likely to be suspended for being an absolute hothead moron so even more reason to be down on their chances although maybe him being out will galvanize the team.

I'll add one - when you enter the zone with the puck, speed and a lane, don't flip it back to the point and let the defense set up their shell.

There are two ways to beat this kind of defense: attack with speed and numbers before they can set up or get a second forward down in the crease, and get to tough areas with greasy shots.

This forward group seemingly doesn't want to do either.

An Oiler thing that drives me mental is when we get the puck at the point, double clutch when a lane is open, wait for the lane to close, THEN shoot it.

When Bouchard is playing like shit (last night) he does this constantly. Nurse and Ekholm like doing it too.

Only 3 forwards had shots last night. Completely clamped by FLA suffocating swarm. And it's because their forwards are so committed to back checking and playing on the right side of the puck and with intensity. Something that our entire forward core lacks outside of 2 players.

hes had so much success putting low wristers through traffic it also makes me wonder if he was told to hammer the puck at the blockers to put some fear into them. its not working fwi

Meh, the game was already lost and the team needed to send a physical message. I don't hate what Leon did.

If he's suspended and nothing comes of Bouchard getting choked out without even a penalty, that just confirms the double standard the league and its officials are putting on this series.

I hated it, it was dirty and might well cost him next game when the team is in a must win situation. This is what Leon does when he gets frustrated, he resorts to dirty tactics.

I'm all for being physical and in fact I wish we'd see more of it from the Oilers but that wasn't physical, that was an ugly cheap shot. I can't get behind a player on my favorite team doing that and I guarantee that HFOil would be breathing fire if Tkachuk or Bennett did that to McDavid.

I mean lest we forget Ptierangelo tried to amputate Drai last year. Dirty shit.

They still won.
