I've been waiting 34 years for the Oil to win another one -- I recall clearly everything about the '87, '88, and '90 Cup runs (and the final game in '85, which was the first game I watched in full) -- so yes, I'm excited. I told my wife and son that if I see this again, I'll know I can die in peace.

But I'm also slightly pessimistic. Florida is a very good team, and in Cup Finals' that go to 7 games, the home team almost always wins (exception: Vancouver in 2011, but that's Vancouver for you). I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but there's also the fact that the NHL brass wants nothing to do with a small, western Canadian city winning the Cup and wants everything to do with sunbelt teams winning it. (As my best pal in Toronto said the other day, Bettman will be there to put sleeping pills into the Oilers' water bottles).

Anyway, I tend to agree with the theory that whoever scores first wins. That's usually how it goes in these game 7's (though not in 1987, when Philly scored first -- on a 5-on-3!! -- and then Edmonton came back and completely shut them down).

The Oilers would appear to have the momentum coming in, so there's certainly a decent chance of them scoring first. Since the 36:00-mark of game three, the Oilers have outscored Florida 20 to 5, so I think the key for Edmonton is to PLAY AGGRESSIVELY in the 1st period.

Now is not the time to hold back and be patient. That's how you lose game 7 on the road. They have to get in the first punch.

(Nothing against Evander Kane --- and it'd be nice to see him lift the Cup --- but honestly I kind of hope he can't play tomorrow. Kane is by far the Oilers' worst defensive forward, and basically every time he's on the ice, the opposition gets freebie chances. Better to keep that limited, as it's been lately.)

3rd time's the charm...

Edmonton is the 3rd Canadian team to play for the Cup since Montreal won it.

This is Florida's 3rd Cup attempt - first 2 were losses.

**

Edmonton has momentum on their side and, it feels like, fate.

Florida has home ice advantage and a rink where the ice might not be great.

**

Florida has Gary Bettman doing whatever it takes, behind the scenes, to ensure they win.

**

My heart says Edmonton, my head says Florida.

3rd Canadian team since Mtl win in 93?

I count five…

2004 Calgary
2006 Edmonton
2007 Ottawa
2011 Vancouver
2021 Montreal

Can't wait to see how Bet365 and DraftKings tell Gary to end this one. My guess is Florida wins and McDavid gets the MVP.

Regardless, there will be a franchise and fanbase that is going to be THE meme punchline until the inevitable 2025 Leafs choke job.

Only the Panthers would be deserving of memes

Also Detroit in 2009 and Boston in 2019, it's become more common.

Good lord... I can only shake my head at people who still believe this kind of nonsense.
I figured Edmonton both getting saved by Bettman in the late 90's and getting all those #1 picks would clue people in.....

Here’s another mind blowing stat in a Stanley Cup Final…

In the past 3 games, the Oilers have never trailed and have been playing with the lead for 163 minutes, 52 seconds.

Scoring the first goal will be huge. I think much more important for the Panthers given the current state of momentum. I truly think the Oilers believe they can come back from any deficit considering what they’ve accomplished in both the regular season and these playoffs.

I like this new trend!

Oh, Bettman certainly wants Edmonton to exist as an NHL franchise. Why wouldn't he? It's a small-market area, but a cash-cow for League revenue. It's the NHL's dream franchise from a financial perspective. However, that doesn't mean the NHL wants small Canadian cities to win the Cup when Florida could instead...

I just can't see Edmonton winning it tommorow. Something always goes awry that keeps the Canadian team from winning it.

Nothing conspiracy related, just shit luck (Lafeyette's post in '94, Gelinas' inconclusive goal in '04, Rolosons injury in '06 and the Sens losing the ECF in OT in '17 for example)
Let’s pray together then, Hinote.

To the god of hockey… Cory Cross.

What’s going to be the intro song for tomorrow on SportsNet?

My vote is Eminem, Lose Yourself

Final Countdown. Or Living on a Prayer.

Edmonton winning would be great for the NHL Bettman flat out said McDavid is the face of the NHL, and even celebrities back the Oilers. McDavid jerseys will fly off the shelves, and kids in all markets would want to see Edmonton play their team.

If Florida win tomorrow I think it will not be good for the game IMO. In the last 3 games Edmonton look like a championship team with a megastar captain. Perfect for this league.
