I did kickboxing for 9 years and if u get kicked or in this instance kneed right above the knee at full speed , your leg goes numb/limp for a while before you can put any pressure on it . Echoing this. He might even be injured, but the trainers were examining him to see how bad it was. Nothing wrong with taking precautionary measures, especially with potential joint injuries.

I've also trained/fought in Muay Thai and getting your knee tweaked is nutty.
