Blue Jays Discussion: Save some runs for the other games, guys. (Jays score team record 28 runs in Friday night drubbing of Red Sox. Yes, that says 28. In one game)

Solid first start for Hoglund. Now that he is back and the draft is over, good time to recap the off-season moves;

Gasuman, Chapman and Kikucki:
fWAR:
5.7
bWAR: 3.1
Commitment: $171M over 10 years of commitment
Average Age: 30.33
Prospects gained: 3B/OF Tucker Toman and 2B/3B/SS Cade Doughty

Semien, Ray and Matz:
fWAR:
3.8 (plus -0.3 for Smith, Snead and Logue)
bWAR: 3.0 (plus -0.4 for Smith, Snead and Logue)
Commitment: $334M and 16 years commitment
Average Age: 30.66
Prospects Lost: RHP Gunnar Hoglund, 3B Kevin Smith, RHP Zach Logue and LHP Kirby Snead

Still a solid outcome for the Jays so far. Both Semien and Ray are back from the dead. Terrible starts for both but now they are back on track, same goes for Chapman. Gausman had a great start and has fallen off a little.

Really nothing not to like, looks like the Jays got similar or better production, for half the money, less commitment for "slightly" younger players along with prospects with better ceilings.

Also factoring in that Ray isnt vaccinated so its a non starter to bring him back and Matz is rumored to be in the same boat.

I am so happy we didn’t blow our wads on Marcus or Ray. Both have been nowhere close to what they were here. Doesn’t Marcus have like 13 HR’s? And Ray has a mid 3 era.

Jays have 4 unsigned picks.

RHP Kale Davis
LHP Jeremy Pilon
RHP Gage Stanifer
OF Gregory Pace

They had money to sign one more of these guys overslot and it looks like it is Stanifer;

Davis sounds like he committed to OU;

No news on Pace or Pilon but all signs point to Pace not signing even though his mom was excited he was selected.

Ray has been actually pretty good and his numbers are kind of obscured by the miserable start he had.

Seimen's numbers look better as well...but still nowhere near enough to justify the deal he got.

He's slashing .237/.297/.390 on the year. OPS+ of under 100 as well. His defense is still sparkling but I don't think you pay 25 million a year for great defense and what appears to be around a league average bat.

Jon Heyman saying Angels are listening on Ohtani, and that a rival executive said it would take a teams top 4 prospects. I’d do that for Ohtani, easy.

Ohtani-Manoah-Gausman-Berrios-Stripling …
Gausman part of parcel going out, hopefully.:thumbu:

ryu i could see but why the hell would you part with your second most consistent pitcher? beyond you just watched the last few starts and picked him to pick on
Been watching Jays since day my friend, and other than Gausman’s first two/three starts,he’s been pretty damn poor.

Only Bichette’s shine
I mean the star dust on the kid is starting to come off. He had a good game yesterday with two knocks. But overall his season has been disappointing. He’s still young and I wouldn’t trade him I just think we gotta lower our expectations on him

Wasnt Pearson once the No.1. Prospect?
In all of baseball I don’t believe so

If he got a haircut, and swallowed his gum,I may look at him in a different light.:naughty: Big Alek, the only starter we have, that I feel comfortable with.
But I suppose you are entitled to your opinion.;)
You aren't comfortable with Gausman is an opinion (not based on facts, mind you)

"Been watching Jays since day my friend, and other than Gausman’s first two/three starts,he’s been pretty damn poor" is not opinion, but rather you posting false information as if it were correct. Gausman is currently 3rd in all of baseball in fWAR and 83rd in bWAR (neither is poor). For comparison, Ray is 43 in fWAR and 105 in bWAR (and not vaccinated)

First in FIP, 8th in BB/9 and 11th in strikeouts as well.

The picture painted is of a pitcher who is above average at worst and sneakily good at best.

I'd argue even I'm underselling him a bit here.

Gausman is 2nd in fWAR among all pitchers in the league, 0.2 fWAR behind Alcantara for the league led and Sandy has pitched 41 more innings in a weaker division.

1. Sandy Alcantara - 4.0 fWAR
2. Kevin Gausman - 3.8 fWAR
3. Max Fried - 3.8 fWAR
4. Carlos Rodon - 3.7 fWAR
5. Aaron Nola - 3.4 fWAR

Gausman has the highest fWAR per start and per inning in the entre major leagues in the hardest division in the baseball.

If this is poor, then i take a few more "poor" starters in my rotation.

I’d be very comfortable going into a playoff series with Alek, Gausman, Strip, and Berrios. Of course, we could use another good starter to push us even more over the edge but who doesn’t need one?

Not a huge fan of Tatis at 2.

I get that he's been top of the world when he plays, but he's starting to look more like a Strasburg.

Wander is 1 by a country mile IMO (the writeup on him leaves a lot to be desired).

I'd still take Soto short term over Tatis. I like Acuna as 2. I think I'd have J Ram 4 (behind Soto).

Tatis still would be top 5 for more, but there is real risk. Alvarez would be 6.

Yeah I wouldn't have Tatis that high

Wander
Julio/Acuna
Ramirez/Soto
Alvarez
Tatis

He also has a 2.07 FIP.
