People...they're the worst!

You could apply these types of injuries to baseball players in general.

Soft is not an adjective I'd personally use when describing Jose specifically.

Soft isn't a word I would use to describe baseball players in general. Trying to put that hockey label on a ballplayer just doesn't work. It's a long season. Players who play every minute of every game like it's the last out of the World series are usually thought of as not very bright. (Brett Lawrie...table for one). Baseball is a game of some nuance, strategy, and skill. It's not like hockey, or football. You can't "go go go" every second. You have to pick your spots. While it may appear that outfielders who pull up on a short fly ball are "lazy" for not diving for the catch, they're actually the smart ones. Conceding the hit instead of gambling and (more often than not) losing and turning a single into a double or worse. Same thing with guys who are praised for being the type that will "run through walls" to make a play. Idiots. Risking potential injury just to make one play in 162 game season is the height of selfishness. And while conditioning is important, there have been more fat soft guys who've had great careers than there are stars in the sky. It's not really a detriment in some cases. Like John Kruk said when a woman chided him for smoking and being a poor example of a professional athlete. “I ain’t an athlete, lady, I’m a ballplayer!†l

Can't wait to see what JB gets contract wise now. He's clearly on the decline and his body and stats prove as much. Something tells me he's going to regret playing hardball in contract demands.

He turns 36 later this year. That is what happens to old athletes: they typically start to fall apart physically.

To be fair, this probably wouldn't have happened if he was playing at first base.

On the other side, maybe he stubs it hitting the bag or pulls something while stretching.

Should trade JB and hope you get a pretty good prospect or whatever for him then call up Pompey. Losing some HR but Pompey can get on base and drive in RBIs. Carrera is having one hell of a season too so we always have him if Pompey isn't ready yet.

Let's be honest, neither carries close to a bat like Bautista. Carrera is just carrying Colabello's BABIP for him.

True, but they both have good OBP. Going off of Pompeys stats in the big leagues last season though. I feel Bautista is more replacable over Edwin and think we could get a pretty good return for him. I'm fine with keeping him because I love Jose and everything he's done for this franchise, but he is 36 and it sounds like the contract he wants is a bit crazy for that age. Not money wise but term.

good job by the jays getting a bunch of guys inked. Saved some slot money on the top two. Burnt a bunch on one HS pitcher so far. Still up 200k so I'm wondering how they spend it. Although, a bunch of dollars haven't been disclosed yet.

I'm guessing they'll get underslot from the Palacios/Snead/Hartman combo. Target Ebo and one of Winckowski/Van Scoyoc.

5 IP, 1 hit, 1 run, 0 walks, 6 K's

That's a really solid Vancouver debut for Maese, sat 93-95

I don't think that injury has anything to do with him being "old". Could have happened even if he was 26. I think he is a great player, and we will need him down the stretch if we want to win the World Series

People have to remember though that unlike Edwin, Bautista has to play outfield every game.

I will let the season play itself out, but I do ultimately agree Edwin is the guy to bring back. I wouldnt trade Bautista though. If we are going to make a run again, we need him. Id take Joe Bats in game 5 of the ADLS over futures any day

I prefer to keep EE over Bautista as well ... If anything, EE fits the team better over the next few years and is more proven in that DH/1B role .. With Bautista at least they have Pompey that can fill that void in the field.

I'd love EE on a 3 year deal with a 4th year club option. I think EE wanted more term so I'd be okay with giving him some more money compensate for that.

Trade him? No. I'd rather roll the dice and let him walk. We have a real shot this year.
