Wanna expand a touch on one of the things I mentioned last night
Letang's answer to what's going wrong last night started by saying "I don't know, maybe we aren't built for" & then he stopped himself & said we just couldn't sustain it. So it sounds like he was gonna say we aren't built for playing a super physical, grinding style that he wants. How many times in his time here has he said post game "we don't have that elite talent like ___ we need to outwork them"..
Since he's arrived that's always been what he's wanted. An aggressive, hard forechecking, grinding, hard working team. Seca seemed to be on board with that for a little, but his recent picks seem to say he isn't.
Brown, Sim, Barr, Bridgewater, Beamish, Di Iorio, Gaughan, Edwards, Chamberlain, Kapageridis, Karimov Doherty, Campbell, Omeri & even Fischer (Kostuch too) wanna play up tempo hockey leaning offensive minded. They don't wanna be grinders who play dump & chase & grind down the other team with physicality. For one those guys aren't that big. They physically cant handle it or do it all the time or when facing bigger teams.
They are being forced to be & play a style that isn't what they are best at. I'm not saying they should be a solely offensive minded team because you do need that grit, grinding style on your team, but we watched up close how LDN played 2 years ago. They didn't cycle you to death & play a boring style. It was aggressive, fast, skilled hockey with great structure & commitment to defence.
I cant imagine Seca & his scouts are watching how certain guys are deployed & not thinking we drafted these guys to be offensive minded. IE Bridgewater being on a PP. Karimov being a T6 F. Brown being more productive. Barr who did well last yr when running a PP. Kostuch being a good goal scorer before his injury. Heck even guys like Wainwright & Doucette im sure internally they expected more goals & points from.
Outside Brown who has stuck T6 all yr really, those other guys have been shafted most of the season. Bridgewater & Barr haven't sniffed PP time or OT shifts. Karimov as we've talked about has been mishandled badly. Kostuch was stuck B6 for 20 games. Even Brown if you recall wasn't getting much of any PP time or OT shifts the first half either.
Long story short, to me there seems to be a disconnect with the style Letang always preaches about & who Seca has been drafting & it's lead to a lot of the issues we've seen this yr, These kids try but they don't wanna play this kind of hockey every night.
