Sarnia Sting 2023-24 Season Thread (Part One)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates

Well earned W for the boys. Played a great 50 minutes. Last 10+OT were... Ugly. Lol. Surzycia played tremendous. 29/30 so many big saves in the 3rd + OT. Filak scores our only goal his 8th in the last 10. Gives him 10 goals. still searching for the elusive assist tho lmao. Such a gamer he is. Should be the captain & I mean that with no disrespect to Way.

Defensively loved our game. Can't overstate how impressed Hurt & Barr have been IMO. Played big minutes, all situations (except PP) & have done it so well 90% of the time. Hurt especially. Young was a beast tonight. Such crazy experience for these guys so early in there careers.

One day we'll be able to throw out 4 lines & man will it be glorious. But they've hung in there even in their losses.

Imagine Chartier starts tomorrow. See how he bounces back from his first bit of adversity. Be big to have it be a successful weekend before having to go to Ottawa where we never win.

Good hard fought win. But man we can't win faceoffs. On another note can't help but notice that once our coaches put there poppy's on we win.

Figured it would be a weak point. Our top 2 Cs played wing last year. Wainwright far & away our top option but he's missed every game except 3.

Hall is supposed to be good at them but isn't taking them id assume cause his shoulder. I liked his game again tonight. Made a couple nice backchecks & set up a nice chance in the 2nd I believe.

Not too surprising they went with Surzycia again tonight. He's on a good run of play, the Sting want to secure a winning weekend, and Chartier played some of his minor hockey in Ottawa so likely give him a start in familiar surroundings on Sunday

Putrid. 4or5 egregious turnovers. 5 penalties. Terrible structure. Totally not ready to play. Swear this is how this road trip always goes.

Good effort & win in PBO. Don't show up in KGN the next night & erase it. Worst period of the season.

Some soft calls in that period. Especially the one on Hurt. I love Wainwright but I'm starting to think he's bad luck lol.
 
Terrible. Not one single player looks to be skating hard. Can't complete a pass. Aren't hitting. Nothing.

Playing arguably the worst goalie in the league & I think we have 1 legit scoring chance in 26 minutes.

And that does it for me watching this game. What a waste of time. Rivals the effort in the 10-0 Flint game last yr. Could get to that point though.

Atrocious in every way.
 
Mac Donald definitely has something going on with his shoulder. Looked separated after the fight with Heyes. Tough loss for you guys.
 
Helluva effort from Chartier in relief. 3 breakaway saves. Couple 2on1 saves. Couple in tight ones. Least he gets come confidence back. Other than that & Hall getting his 1st disastrous game.

Wainwright 2 more assists. Continues to rack up points since returning. Fact he isn't on PP1 is a crime.

Idk if what he had is going thru the team or they just flat out didn't show up but worst showing of the season.

Doubt we see MacDonald for awhile. Did not look pretty.

The fact that Filak is still taking the draws on the top PP unit is a joke. I like Filak but he loses like 75% of the draws. Are ability in the faceoffs needs to be addressed IMO. we've only won 45 faceoffs in the last 2 games. And I think that may be a part of our PP wose. Is the fact we can win the O zone draws.

With Macdonald's injury if it is a separated shoulder that's about 8 weeks or so. I'm kinda asking myself with MacDonald and Hoover both 19 and constantly hurt. What is really the point of wasting 2 roster spots on them. It may sound mean but why not just cut them at this point. I'd rather pick up maybe an 05 who could use playing time.

We'll have to see what his injury is first. Couldve looked worse than it was. If he is out long term definitely something they could look at cause I'm not sure u want the rookies being asked to play that much every night, but I still wouldn't give up much.
 
And just like that this team is only two points out from being 2nd last in the conference. Couple poor efforts. They must sell a couple players at deadline.

And also losing more games as of late, while teams below us are playing better and winning more. Not a good direction. Especially with one of the youngest teams in the league. Pretty easy to make the call to try and get a couple draft picks at the deadline of the future.
