Sarnia Sting 2022-23 Season Thread

Right from start no effort. Couldn't Letang take a timeout and at least try a reset in the 1st . Hang part of this loss on coaching staff. Sad when your rookie 1st rounder is the only player actually making any kind of body contact. I still don't see any reason why Mast gets the minutes he does , he's so soft . Sikic was invisible , nowhere near the compete level he had at times last year. If you can't get jacked up for the home opener , time to play GOJHL

Gonna need more Jack Daniels post game beverages if this continues

Get 4 in the 3rd to make it look nice. How they should've played all night. Unacceptable effort. Couldn't of looked like a team higher on themselves than they did tonight.

0 extra effort, weren't making it hard on SAG, weren't blocking shots. Rude awakening & one they best learn from.

Don’t give them any credit for tonight, Saginaw definitely sat back after the second period, that was a 60 minute embarrassment by the sting.

Letang not holding back post-game. Called it "f*cking terrible." he did not like that Martone & Hoover were the only two guys who played with an edge. Said it's something they'll address. Not pleased with Gaudreau's start. Said he's the best G in the league but he had to be ready to start on time too.

Said he keeps saying it & he will keep on saying that if you aren't willing to win battles, box guys out, win net front battles you won't win no matter the opponent.

I imagine he laid into them pretty good. Hopefully, Sunday they come in with something to prove & these type of efforts are few & far between.

This BETTER be the worst game we play this season. Realistically it might be impossible to top. 0 effort. Vilmanis is the ONLY guy who showed up tonight.

Disgrace. I never leave games early but I'm leaving after 2. What a waste of a Friday night.

On the bright side Hoover showed up with a nice hard throwing scrap. plus 2 even though 7 were scored against the Sting. He's a beast and something I wish we still had on our roster.

Was a great tilt too. Both guys got bloodied up. If he keeps it simple he's a very effective 3rd pair guy who brings a real edge.

Sure does. The guy is a team first type player. Will go to the wall. He will be a tough guy to have around for the next two seasons and possibly an overage. People were critical of the two picks that they gave up for him but honestly he will be worth much more than those picks in a year's time. A true find for a 10th round pick and even better find for Sarnia to have him play at home. Will follow him lots this season to see his progression. Enjoy Sting fans!

Idk what it is with this organization & stinking it up whenever there's over 3K in attendance but it's ridiculous. As Letang said post-game, you only get one first impression & they blew it.

Agree with the post on Mast, Letang has to be seeing something that no one else is because mast is not a pp guy, better options imo. Hoover fighting late in the game means nothing, where was that in the first period? Letang, as a poster said should've called a time out in the first , settle them down, not a good look for a fan base that's fragile as is, not gonna sell tickets by getting blown out in your home opener.

I'm just gonna guess he meant be focused/dialed in. Everything that's ever come out about Ben is that he's a hard worker.


Just an off night at the office where it was pretty obvious they drank their own kool-aid & thought they were untouchable. Hope they learn from it & it doesn't happen again.

I thought he should've used it in the 2nd. In the first it was 2-0 11 mins in. No need to panic yet. The 3-0 goal was with 1 minute left in the PD so u may as well wait then.

But the 2nd pd was even worse. Letang said the period was atrocious & that's one way to put it cause it was & then some. They abandoned all structure.

Completely agree on Mast. 5on5 he's been terrific but good God get him off the f*cking powerplay. Criminal Daviault isn't on either PP.

Hoping for a much better effort from the sting today! Everyone was saying prior to the season starting that the greyhounds were going to be horrible but tbh I think they're a lot better than most think. Sting need to work hard today and bring home the W after the embarrassing home opener.

I hear everyone talk about Gaudreau being the best goalie in the league... im not buying it. He looked awful and lazy. Namestnikov is an absolute bust. the guy just skates in circles doing nothing. Just my observations but this team doesnt look good.

I agree about Namestnikov he needs to go plays 2nd line and powerplay and still has 0 points. Speaking of 2nd line ares socks right now we've scored 12 goals in 3 games and r 2nd line has 0 can't expect to win games when your whole 2nd line has 1 point. The sting need to get a top player sooner than later if that's going to keep up or we will be screwed by deadline time

I was speechless after Friday’s game. First time I’ve been back since all the border crossing BS, and got treated to that pile of dung.
Agree with StingUpdates earlier comment that Vilmanis was best sting player, but he’s being killed stuck on a line with Namestnikov. Please demote the little guy to 3rd line or lower and give 22 a linemate he can gel with.
Anyway, it’s only ones game. Let’s see if they can do something vs the Soo today.
